Page 74 of Tasting Innocence
Chapter Twenty-Nine
Unfortunately,I wasn’t able to stay at Dex’s house after giving him my virginity. Since my parents knew we went on a date, it probably wouldn’t have been the best idea to call and say I wouldn’t be home. I know I’m eighteen, but even thinking my parents might be aware I had sex is weird to me. To avoid any more conversations with my mother about condoms and pregnancy, I want to make sure she doesn’t feel the need to remind me everyday. I’ll tell her I’m not a virgin after my wedding, just to be safe.
But after I took a bath, I put on his clothes, got into bed with him, and we watched TV for a couple hours before I put my dress back on and went home. It wasn’t awkward like I’d imagined it would be, but Dex has such an easy-going way about him, he always makes me comfortable.
As I’m lying on my bed, daydreaming about Dex, a knock on the door startles me out of those thoughts.
“Heard you had a date the other day.”
I roll my head to the side and spot Zo leaning on my door jam.
“Yep.” I get into a sitting position, resting against my headboard. “He met the parents and all.”
Zo snorts, walking into my room. “Funny.”
“You here for details or what?”
He makes a face. “God, no.”
I shake my head with a grin on my lips. “Well, I’m glad you two made up.”
“Yeah. I was wrong for saying some of the things I said, and I really hope I’m wrong about the rest.”
I throw a pillow at him. “Okay, well, you can take your negative Nancy thoughts somewhere else. We’re happy.”
He tosses it back at me. “I know. I’m just saying I hope it works out and doesn’t end ugly because—”
“That’s what I don’t need,” I say, cutting him off. “We’re happy now, and we’ll worry about the future when we get there. Stop waiting for something bad to happen.”
“I’m just worried.”
“Well, don’t be.”
“Okay, fine. I’m done,” he says with a smirk, sitting on the bed.
“So, what’re you doing here? Stealing more food?”
“Why can’t I just visit?” I purse my lips at him. “Okay, I was asking Dad if I could use his grill.”
I laugh. “What’re you gonna grill?”
“Food. We’re having a Fourth of July thing. I’m also here to invite you.”
I smile. “Oh, this will be the first time me and Dex will be around you and everyone as a couple.”
“I’m aware.”
“I’m not gonna not kiss him or not hold his hand either.”
“I wasn’t gonna ask you to do that.”
“Good.”
“But I don’t need to hear any sexual innuendo jokes or anything either.”
“Oh, like you make all the time?”
He gives me a look before standing up. “Anyway, I’ll see ya.”
