“Oh, when was it?”

“June,” she answered.

She looked like a June girl. I wasn’t honestly sure what that meant, but June fit her perfectly.

“I turned 22.”

My brows lifted. “22? I thought you were in the same year as us.”

She smiled brightly. “I am. I’ve skipped a grade in High School. I graduate this year with my bachelors in technical writing. What about you? What are you going for?”

“Oh, um…” My nose scrunched. “Publishing,” I answered and then released a breath. “I don’t really have a plan after college, but I thought about opening my own publishing company. Although with the whole…I’m going to have to take over for my father when he retires, so I’m not sure if it’ll really work out.”

Syn bumped my shoulder. “One day at a time, that’s what my brother always says. If publishing is what you want to do, focus on it, everything else will figure itself out along the way.”

Yeah, I guess, but this has been hanging over my shoulder for the last year. It wasn’t something I was ready to face, but eventually, I’d have to face it head on.

“So, you and Greyson?” she asked, hushing her voice. “How is that going?”

My cheeks turned bright red, glad for the subject change, but nervous about the topic. “Oh, um…” I cleared my throat, glancing around the halls. “It’s new,” I flinched at the tone. “I don’t know,” I breathed out. “I’ve never…it’s a new relationship.”

Syn smiled. “It’s okay,” she assured me. “Who has ever been in a real relationship before now, right? Teens and early twenties, that’s when you’re figuring stuff out. Real relationships don’t happen until later on. All I know is that he can’t keep his eyes off of you. All of these women just throwing themselves at him, and he hasn’t touched any of them. His eyes are only on you.”

Another little bit of relief settled within me. “He told me,” I confessed.

“Rumors are terrible, right? God, Rem didn’t help either. I’m all about girls rooting for girls, but she’s a whore who definitely needs to go talk to someone about her issues. I almost feel bad for her, but after seeing her clear displays towards Greyson in front of everyone? I felt a little less terrible about it.”

I searched her beautiful blue eyes for a second before turning back to the hall. “Did you ever get jealous?” I finally asked, lowering my voice.

Her smile widened as she rolled her eyes. “Of course. Before we even started dating, I was jealous of everyone who even looked at her. God, she’s gorgeous, you know? But about a month or two into our relationship, I realized something.”

“What?”

She shrugged. “People are always going to look, always. I’m actually proud of that because she is beautiful and I’m proud of her. The thing is, every single night, she comes home to me. Every night. It’s not some other girl she’s fucking around with, it’s me. All of those men and women can throw themselves at her all they want, but at the end of the day, it’s me. You have to remember, Em, it’s not about what they do, it’s about what he does. He’s gorgeous, women are always going to hit on him, but who is he staring at whilethey do?”

I glanced back as we reached the classroom door. I watched as he pulled out a key and unlocked the door, girls already saying hi, waving flirtatiously, trying to get him to look at them.

As soon as that lock was flipped, he turned back to me and smiled, gesturing to the door, not even sparing those other girls a glance.

“See?” Syn smiled, walking by me. “Not even a peek.”

I watched after her as she and Ash walked into the room before turning back to Grey.

He rose a brow, looking me over slowly, hungrily.

My stomach began to warm again, and I quickly walked by him, slowing just to get a word in. “You have to stop doing that.”

“I now know that you wanted to fuck me so terribly, you considered letting me do it in front of everyone,” he mumbled, shutting the door behind him. “There is no stopping anything.”

Fuck.

“So,” Ash stated, tossing her bag into a chair on the bottom row, “I don’t mean to put any pressure on this situation, but I feel it’s in everyone’s best interest if I tell you both what happened.” She turned to Grey and I. “Jordan called me last night.”

And immediately, any ounce of good feeling I had been carrying since yesterday, fell away as my eyes found hers, my blood running cold. “He…what?” I breathed out.

Syn sanded her hands together, joining her girlfriend’s side, worry in her eyes.

“He called me,” she repeated as Grey’s hand slid to my lower back, trying to ease me further into the room.
