He had scolded me playfully then. I wasn’t a dog, nowhere near it. He had said that I had found my place in this world, that I was settling into it. Maybe it would fade or maybe this was howit would be for the rest of my life. He asked me how I felt about that, and I said good. All I wanted in this life was to be with him, to make him happy, to please him.

No matter what anyone says?

Apparently, there were whole subsocieties in this world that dedicated their lives to talking shit on things like this. On the way some women truly felt like all they wanted was to serve. I hated that. Why couldn’t people just be without being judged by strangers halfway across the world? It was bullshit.

I pulled the phone out of his pocket and typed in his pin. “Okay.”

“Pull up Jack and call him.”

I found his brother’s name and hit call, holding it up to Grey’s ear when it started to ring.

“Hey, it’s time you met Emily. She has some questions about contracts. You know more about them than any of us.”

My eyes widened, my jaw dropping. “Grey,” I hissed.

He offered me a small smile “Go, speak with him. He won’t bite.” He thought about it. “He won’t bite you,” he clarified.

I ground my teeth together. “Dick.”

He chuckled. “I love you.”

I rolled my eyes with a huff, although my insides melted at his words. “I love you too,” I muttered and turned away from him.

“That Jack?” Jeremy asked, pointing to the phone. “Hey Jack!”

I glared at him and put the phone to my ear, heading back to the table of bullshit. “Um, hey?” I winced. Fuck. I cleared my throat, rolling my shoulders, trying to channel that girl Grey had met outside the gas station what felt like years ago. “Hey, this is Emily.”

“Emily, it’s good to finally meet you. Greyson told me you had some questions about contracts. For your father’s business, I’m assuming.”

I nodded, chewing on my lip. “Yeah, it’s good to meet you too. Grey’s told me so much about you. You found out everythingabout me because he asked. That was…a little creepy, but much appreciated in hindsight.”

He chuckled lightly, the sound gentle, calming. “If it makes you feel any better, I was ordered to kill my girl.”

My brows lifted and I turned back to Grey. “Seriously?”

Grey looked up, his brows pulling together.“What?”he mouthed.

“Don’t worry, she held her own just fine,” he assured me.

I sucked in my lips, turning away from him back to the table. I honestly hadn’t really believed Grey when he said he was the least psychotic of the four boys, but shit. “I’m…glad?”

Another laugh.

Rae, Grey had said once. Her name was Rae. Well, she went by Rae, but that was an entirely different story. “So, yes,” I said on a breath, picking up yet another list of publishers I had printed out. These ones had opened and closed within a year, going bankrupt. “The company was founded by my great grandfather,” I explained. “He wrote out a contract stating that the company has to remain in the bloodline. I was wondering if there was a way out of something like that.”

A keyboard sounded in the background, and I couldn’t help but wonder if he was always available when Grey called. It sure seemed like it. “You wanting to sell?”

I turned back to Grey, who was talking to Syn while Sirius, who was now on the counter, sniffed the air around him. “Yeah,” I answered truthfully. “I think I want to get away from the Glass family name.”

“Okay, let me see here.”

I leaned back against the table, watching as Grey tasted the steamed veggies he was making. He closed his eyes, a small smile touching the corner of his lips, and then he nodded once and turned to the meat.

I couldn’t help but smile. Fuck, I loved him.

“I’ve downloaded the contracts and I’m printing them outnow,” he explained, shocking me.

My brows furrowed. “Already? Huh, I would have thought it would have been more secure than that.”
