No matter what I always trusted my gut.

“I’ll check with them if they have any form of medical kits to help cover up that scar and see if they maybe have some ointment. We don’t want our future hockey champion to miss out on regional try-outs.” Camille said.

Jaylin stayed by my side while the guys left to buy some food and fill up our drinks.

“Did she forget that she used to be the same?” Jaylin remarked with a smile in her voice.

I chuckled and shrugged. “She wasn’t wrong to trust Corbin and not his awful, selfish brother.” I pointed out.

She nodded agreeing with me.

“I’m glad she let him in and let go of the past.”

Camille was a completely different person from what she was years ago just after her assault. She feared men to a point where she stopped going outside making us worried that she will never heal, but looking at her now. She overcame her demons, got married to her first love and their chemistry is wilder than it has ever been.

“I look up to her because of her strength and how she overcame her fear.” She decided one day to stop being afraid of the world and went out there to get her degree which she passed effortlessly.

“It takes a lot of courage to do what she did,” Jaylin noted with a nod of her head.

“I feel pathetic when I think back to what I did after my mom passed away. Camille got injured and pieces of her soul were taken away from her.”

Jaylin shook her head and rested her hand on my shoulder. “You lost your mom, Sash. No child deserves to watch their parent get taken away from them the way you did and have your parent forget about your feelings and emotions.”

“Nobody blames you for what you did. Look at what I did. I lost my mind because of my selfish mother and thought taking my own life would balance out the pain I felt.”

“It didn’t. It left a scar that I would always answer for.”

“You felt unloved.” Her mother has no excuse for what she did to Jaylin and her twin brother, Damian.

“Now I am content. I found a man who reminds me of every day’s magic and how lucky we are to be here.”

We raised our heads in unison when Travis called her over to help them out with our drinks.

“I’ll be right back,” She assured me before going over to where Travis was waiting for her.

I looked down at my bruised knee trying to inspect if I was going to make try-outs next week and pretending not to be the lonely girl which only lasted for a few seconds when I received a visitor.

“I’m starting to think that there is nothing you can’t do.”

CHAPTER SIXTY-SIX

My head snapped up when I recognized Brandon’s familiar deep voice.

It’s been a week since his team won the ice hockey world championship.

It’s been a week since I stopped talking to him and it’s been days since he arrived back in Louisiana.

I didn’t bother going to the airport to welcome him back and I made it pretty clear when he tried calling me that I wasn’t interested in what he had to say to me.

He made my decision easy when I watched him getting embraced and kissed on the lips by Ashley.

My father told me that he came to the house a couple of times looking for me and I think he finally informed Brandon that I never wanted to see him again as he stopped coming over and trying to call me.

Brandon’s chiseled, masculine and big frame stood in front of me with his dimmed grey eyes gazing into my round eyes growing wider from surprise.

My mouth went dry when my mind was empty of words, but then I noticed he is the guy Camille shot between the legs and I felt like high-fiving Camille.

A smile slipped before I could cover-up.
