“Oh, Sasha. She is still undefiled or am I wrong?” Megan said, tilting her head slightly and giving me a pointed stare.
I sometimes wonder what kind of dictionary she has going on inside of her head.
“So, you are still a virgin?” Nicole asked without judgment.
I nodded.
“How though?” It looked as if Nicole’s eyes were going to pop out of her sockets as she couldn’t believe it.
I kept my smile hidden. “I just never craved such things as the rest of you did and I still don’t.”
“What about Brandon though?” Nicole asked, making no sense right now.
“What about him?” I questioned.
“You two have been hanging out a lot lately.” She pointed out and I’ve never really noticed it before as it didn’t bother me.
I shrugged. “Yeah…so?” Brandon and I are friends and he hasn’t shown any romantic interest in me. He has been kind to me ever since we bumped into each other a few months ago.
“You do realize that every female who knows who he is, wants him for themselves, right? And you are not even fantasizing about it.”
“I know girls can’t keep their hands off him, but that’s his problem and not mine.” Because yet, again. It doesn’t bother me.
“He is a friend and I don’t see him as the rest of the population sees him. I am not denying his good looks, but I see him for what he truly is which is a person.”
CHAPTER FORTY-TWO
It was expected to be the underdogs facing our rivals on their turf, but they made the mistake of undermining our strength, commitment, and strategy. We walked away with thewinwhile facingthemontheirturf in front of alltheirsupporters.
“I’m not going to lie—I am starting to enjoy proving people wrong and watching them crawl back into the hole they came out of,” Clarissa remarked, shoving her clothes into her sports bag while everyone else was still busy changing.
“Especially when they treat us like nobodies,” Briana said with a huffing voice.
The girls nodded their heads in agreement and some raised their opinions.
“People will always have opinions when they think they know everything,” Isabelle commented entering the locker room.
“You should try and use it to your advantage because the end prize is going to be worth it.”
“Especially if the underdogs are going to stand a chance to win the regional cup this year,” Tammy said with a puffed-out chest and wide, confident shoulders.
“Settle down, Supergirl,” Megan said with a giggle and a grin.
“I agree with Tammy, in a few weeks we’ll know if we qualify for the national indoor tournament try-outs.” I reminded everyone. We’ve done our share by winning three matches that were required.
“Well, then I can start by congratulating each of you as I received notice that your first try-out is next week,” Isabelle announced bringing the whole locker room to a complete pause. Everyone stared at her with our mouths hanging open. Completely- and utterly speechless. You could hear a pin drop.
“What?” I was the one to break the silence.
Isabelle shot me a grin. “When you came to me a few days ago, begging me for a chance. I saw players who were starving for a second chance and I had a few officials attending the try-outs at my stadium that none of you knew about. They were here today by the way and verbally told me that you made the cut after coach Peterson and I registered the team.”
The girls each jumped in the air, shrieking from excitement, and embraced each other—falling over bags and pieces of discarded clothes and equipment.
I stood there dumbfounded trying to comprehend what Isabelle just said.
“I need your girls to put in all the work and so much more this week. If we don’t make try-outs, we don’t make the cuts. This is your last chance as u-19 to get a shot at the big leagues.” Everyone nodded wiping away their tears.
“Good, we are to appear at the Texas Pride Indoor facility next week Saturday.” Isabelle started to explain.
