He loved it. Nighttime hunts were thebest of all.

She is no prey. Focus!came the reminder of his controlling part.

There she walked, forty feet in front of him. Never glancing nervously back like most women did.

Why wouldn’t she check behind her?

She took out her phone, glanced at it, and shoved it back into her coat. Checking his watch, he saw it was way beyond 1a.m., so she was not only doing something dangerous but also something illegal, as Central Park was closed in the nighttime hours. Not that he cared, but a certain feeling spread through him. This was not a coincidence. None of it was.

All his senses were on high alert as he scanned the surroundings for movement, for noise, for anything unusual. There were some people lurking by the bushes on his right, probably drunken teenagers from the sound of it. A homeless man on a bench, but nothing that called for immediate danger.

She took a turn into one of the lesser-frequented paths, even during the day. And then his heart began to beat faster. His muscles tensed. His whole body went on alert. Even before the figure stepped out of the shadows and walked up straight behind her. Emma flinched hard, and on the next corner, the enormous, hooded figure pulled her from the path into the darkness, under a bridge. She didn’t even scream.

Why doesn’t she shout for help?

Running towards the spot, he activated the alert button on his military gear watch, just to be sure Edwards would be on alert and could hear. Glancing around the corner to where the bear of a man had pulled her, he saw her being pressed against the wall – a gun pointed at her head.

Damn.

“What is a chick like you doing out here by night?” he heard the male voice say to her. She didn’t answer.

“Mhhhhm, nothing?” came another rasping sound. “I must guess then; you smell like you want to be taken.”

Why is she not fighting back?

“Here are the rules, sweetheart. If you scream, I’ll pull the trigger. If you don’t do what I tell you to, I’ll pull the trigger. If you mess with me, I’ll also pull the trigger. Understood?”

And as she didn’t answer, he heard a click, and the male voice hissed darkly at her, “Answer!”

“Y-Y-es,” came her shaky voice.

“Good, now turn around and open your pants.”

His whole body went into attack mode. Senses sharp, muscles tense, and focused on what was to happen. He had to intervene.

No one would touch her.

No one.

The only one who would take her was him.

“She won’t do any of the such,” he growled and stepped around the corner of the bridge poster, pulling out the gun from his belt, pointing it directly at the predator’s head, who froze.

“Remove your gun, asshole, very slowly.”

The guy did it without hesitation, with shaking hands. He gripped the gun, and the moment he did, he knew it was a fake.

“Step away from her.” He observed every one of his movements, waiting for a hint of a fight.

The guy had quite the body-build from what he could presume. He took one step back, but then he spun around with the fastness of a cornerback. The guy ducked, and launched himself at him before he could safely pull the trigger – he did not want the bullet to miss the guy and hit Emma.

The impact of the guy was much heavier than anticipated. The hard ground beneath him and the weight of the man crushed his torso, the gun flew out of his hand as his head hit the ground. A gasp of pain came out of his throat. It was exactly what he needed right now. Direct his obsession elsewhere, preferably into violence against those who deserved it.

The guy pushed himself up and his fist crashed painfully into his face.

Damn. He was strong. This’ll be a good one.

He loved a good fight, but this was just payback for his attempt to rape her and a way to let out some stamina, so he hit the guy several times in the face. Hard. Blood splattered onto his own face from the impact his knuckles made on the guy’s skin.
