“I want us together. I just don’t know how to do it and frankly, I don’t want to have to ask.”
“Ew, ew, pick me. I can take care of it,” Beth said, jumping up and down with her hand in the air.
“Okay. When?”
“I’ll bring supper tomorrow, eat with you all and trust me, by the time I leave, Cannon will be begging to sleep beside you.” Beth grinned and waggled her eyebrows.
Jesse giggled along with everyone else. She’d gladly let Beth handle it for her. She had no clue how Beth would accomplish it. But she’d wait and see. If it would get Cannon beside her where they could talk about their day and she could touch his hand during the night, she was okay with anything.
Chapter Nineteen
Cannon laughed at Beth’s dogs she’d brought over when she delivered their supper. Even though he’d been pissed as hell when Beth had named her dog after him, the dog was smart and quite the handsome guy.
Dolly and Lilly were exploring, but Moss had stayed in the kitchen with them. His eyes were watching to see if anyone dropped anything. Cannon wasn’t letting Beth know he’d given Moss a piece of pizza crust. He didn’t know if she allowed them people food, but Moss had looked at him with those big soulful eyes and Cannon couldn’t resist.
Which kind of made him worried for when their girls were older. If he couldn’t say no to a dog, how the heck was he going to say no to his girls? He might need to chat with Locks and find out how he did it. He could imagine that as gorgeous as the Franks sisters were now, they were probably beautiful as children. Locks probably had a hard time saying no to them. Heck, Phoebe had him doing tea parties with her because she’dgiven him the pouty lip and sad eyes. Suddenly, he was talking in an English accent and playing pretend with her pink tea set.
Beth and Jesse had gone to look at both spare bedrooms to see which would work best for the babies’ room. If he had a say, he’d rather they were in the room he was in. It was a little larger and the window faced the side of the house. The front bedroom, which Jesse used for a craft room, had huge windows. He was a fan of windows, but he wasn’t sure he wanted the bedroom the girls would be in to be at the front of the house.
Also, the room he was in was closer to the master. It also had a bathroom attached like the master. He could imagine having a way to wash your hands after changing diapers would be nice. Jesse had already mentioned paint colors and he agreed. A pale gray with pink accents would be good. Plus, as they got older, if they loved pink as much as Jesse did, they’d love the room.
He wondered where Jesse got her coveralls. Phoebe and now Blake had a pair. Maybe he could get some ordered for the girls.
Maybe her sisters could give him some help. He picked up his phone to text and wished his cast was off his arm. Soon, hopefully.
Cannon: Do you all know where Jesse buys her coveralls? I want to order some for the twins as a surprise. And if there is anything else I could get for her to grovel, I’d love some suggestions. No cap on how much it costs.
Sarah: She was mentioning she didn’t have a comfy chair for the garage to lean back in. She has an office one or the short loveseat in her office.
Winnie: I agree with a chair, but also, she loves books. I’ll send you the authors. Maybe you could get her some books and special items.
Cannon: Anything huge? I think I have a lot to make up for.
Remi: 1) Have you apologized? If not, don’t bother groveling yet. I’m sorry goes a long way. 2) Are you planning on making this permanent? I’m all for you guys being together. But if you’re not in this for the long haul, don’t get her hopes up with gifts and sweet words. 3) If you hurt her again, I will make the injuries from the wreck seem like a vacation.
Beth: Jesse’s in the bathroom, so I can answer. Her feet are so swollen she’s wearing Remi’s shoes. Maybe some soft socks, bigger motorcycle boots, and bigger Chucks. Also, she doesn’t have one of those body pillows to put between her legs if she lays on her side.
Cannon: Body pillows?
Beth: It will make her legs more comfortable with the size of her belly. I’ll send you a link. Also, I’m echoing Remi but going a step further. I think you are the other half of each other, but if you’re not serious, back off. I’ll make you hurt, then no one will find your body.
Sarah: Beth, seriously.
Beth: Like you weren’t thinking that.
Sarah: Digital footprint. I would have never said it online.
Winnie: Let’s get back on track. Her favorite snacks would be good and she’s been wanting a printer and heat press for her craft room. Even though she has plenty of money for it, she won’t buy it because she wants to have enough cash for the babies.
Cannon: Got it. Can you send the items to my email? Clara dropped off my laptop. I don’t want Jesse to see the items in my text messages.
He went and silenced the text messages with her sisters so if anyone replied Jesse wouldn’t see the notifications popping up on his phone. He had no idea that Jesse hadn’t been buying stuff for herself to save for the babies, but he could see that. Besides items for her, he needed to figure out how to have a money conversation about the house, the babies, and their future. He just wasn’t exactly sure how to bring it up.
Jesse relaxed in the recliner in her family room. Roam was over helping Cannon get ready for bed. She’d hid her grin when Cannon had rolled his eyes at someone walking in to help him. He’d complained just about everyone had seen his package and smarted off wondering who was next. Roam had rolled his eyes and smarted off right back that maybe the woman wearing aProperty of Cannonshirt should help him. Thankfully, Roam and Cannon had been heading into the bathroom off Cannon’s room and couldn’t hear when Jesse couldn’t contain the laughter. Oh my. The thought of Clara helping Cannon get ready for bed was hysterical.
Beth had left, taking the dogs with her, and assured Jesse that everything was going according to plan. She also mentioned she’d replace anything that was damaged. The last statement had kind of concerned Jesse, but she trusted Beth.
Jesse listened, hearing Roam and Cannon chatting as Roam helped him, but she wasn’t expecting Roam’s yell.
