Page 53 of Rest In Pieces
“Okay, so I found a new author. I started with one book and accidentally read eleven more over the last two weeks.”
“You don’t like watching when the brothers fuck the club girls where you can see, but your books are just as bad.”
“If I wanted to watch porn, I’d do it at home.”
“Instead, you read it like a lady, right?” King smiles at her.
“Exactly. Okay, I got sidetracked there. Carry on with your story, G.”
“I got drunk. Amity dropped me back here.”
“That part I know. She’s lovely by the way. Shit sorry, carry on.”
“So you know the part where there were guns and fingers pointed at her before she hurried herself out of here?”
“She mentioned Hicks pulling a gun on her. Wait, I think Mac and Toot did too, right?”
“They were just doing their jobs,” Blade defends.
“I’m guessing you don’t know about what happened next?”
She turns her stare to Blade, who groans and gives her the full story before turning back to me.
“That’s why Hicks isn’t around anymore? Fucking hell.” She grumbles before leaning forward. “None of that was your fault, G, minus the getting drunk part.”
“I know that. So does she, but I’m a package deal. And you know yourself that loving a Raven comes with its challenges.”
“Sounds to me like she’s strong enough to handle it.”
“That’s just it. Being able to handle it and wanting to handle it are not the same. She’s into me, that much I know, but she wasn’t playing coy when she said it would be better if we just let things lie as they are.”
“Except the G I know doesn’t give up when he wants something.”
“Which would explain how I ended up fucking her the next time I saw her.”
“For fuck’s sake.” Blade groans.
“You wanted me to do a deep dive on her. What did you think we were doing in her RV?”
“Not that kind of deep dive.”
I roll my eyes. “You said I wasn’t allowed to go after her until I found something, but I couldn’t find shit. Nothing that raises a red flag anyway. And if that was the only chance I was gonna get with her, I wasn’t going to pass it up.”
“I gave you an order.”
“I fucked her. I didn’t propose. And not two minutes ago, you were telling me not to use that as a fucking excuse. So which is it?”
Blade doesn’t say anything, but I can tell he’s pissed.
“I still don’t understand why you’d think she was a spy,” Sunshine tells him, not bothered by his attitude at all.
“I knew she was more than she appeared to be. Come on. She disarmed Hicks, put Mac on his back, and leapt over the fucking gates like Spiderman.”
“So you thought she was a spy? She obviously wouldn’t have been a very good one if that was the case.”
“What? Woman, I just told you?—”
“Don’t you woman me, diva,” Sunshine growls, her voice low so nobody beyond our table can hear. She might be pissed, but she won’t disrespect him in front of his men. I guess I don’t count in this scenario.
