Now it’s Amity’s turn to look amused. “Don’t encourage her, Midas, or she’ll be asking you questions all night.”

“What kind of questions?” he asks, making Amity groan as he sips his coffee.

“Well, do you become desensitized to seeing a penis if you see them being waved in your face all the time? And if you become desensitized, doesn’t that mean you’re more likely to be experimental with someone of the same sex? Have you had sex with more than one woman at the same time? And if so, howdoes that work? What about with a woman and a man? Do you really feel the guy when you’re both in the same woman and does it feel good? Does—” Midas covers Tinkerbell’s mouth with his hand, cutting off the rest of her questions and muffling her words.

Amity starts laughing at the look on Midas’s face. “I tried to warn you.”

“How do you turn her off? Is there a factory reset button or something?” Midas asks with wide eyes.

“Say something dirty to her. It’ll shock her system and switch her back to preacher’s daughter mode.”

“Her dad’s a preacher?”

Amity nods. Midas leans down and let’s go of her mouth as he whispers something in Tinkerbell’s ear that makes her go red. She opens her mouth and closes it again before her eyes glaze over.

“Uh… Amity, I think I broke her.”

“Give her a second.”

Amity passes me my coffee from the end of the table as we all wait, watching Tinkerbell, until she blinks, snapping out of it, and looks at Midas. “Could you draw me a diagram?”

Midas bursts out laughing and pulls Tinkerbell in for a hug.

“Oh look, Amity, I’ve got a new bestie too.”

Amity chuckles. “Bite me.”

AMITY

Iwalk G back to his bike as Nevaeh talks animatedly to Midas.

“Should I warn Nevaeh that Midas isn’t a commitment kind of guy?” G asks me quietly, his arms wrapping around me as we stand beside his bike.

“No. She’s already friend-zoned him.”

“Seriously?”

I shrug. “It’s what she does. She doesn’t mean to; it just happens. She doesn’t see herself as anything special, so when a guy shows interest, she has no clue and thinks he’s just being nice. You have no idea how many times I’ve had to tell her that the guy she’s just been talking to was hitting on her, and she just laughs at me like I’m joking. She seriously has no idea she’s a bombshell and thinks I have to say that because I’m her friend.”

“I will never understand women,” he mutters, making me smile. He tightens his hold on me, and I wrap my arms around his waist.

“What are we doing, G?” I sigh, leaning against his chest.

“Getting to know each other,” he murmurs.

“I’m not staying, though. Once the movie wraps, I’ll be off to the next location.”

“That doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun while you’re here. Look, I get that there’s a time limit on whatever this is, but I think we’d both regret it if we don’t at least see where this thing goes.”

I look up at him, which is a mistake. The man has bedroom eyes, and now all I can think about is rolling around in bed with him.

“Come on, Amity. What have you got to lose?”

My heart if I’m not careful, I think, but keep that little tidbit to myself.

“My panties,” I tell him instead, still salty that he took the last pair, even if they were ripped. “You better not be doing anything weird with them.”
