Costas seemed concerned. “Is something wrong?”
I shrugged again. “I don’t believe so. I just had a visit from the goddess, and she told me to go to Montana. The last time she sent me someplace, it was to find Patrick in Zürich. It appears she’s always sending me to my One. I’m going to listen once more and head to him and see what is happening, if anything.”
Costas grinned. “Enjoy your time. I will most certainly watch over the coven for you. If you need anything while you’re gone, you know you only need to reach out.”
I nodded. “Thanks, Costas. See you in a day or two.”
I turned, and as I was walking down the hallway toward our quarters, I reached out to Patrick.“My love? How about I join you and Edric for a day or two?”
There was an excited squeak through our bond. That alone was answer enough. My family needed me in Montana, so that’s where I was going to go.
Chapter 16
Patrick
Icouldn’t explain why I was so excited for Arthur to join us in Montana beyond the fact that neither of us really cared to be apart for more than a day or two at most. We had been mated a long time, and although we had spent up to a week apart, we simply chose not to. We would often spend long weekends here every month or two, but at times, life in the coven became too hectic for both of us to get away, and I came without Arthur. This was one of those times. Or so I thought.
I wasn’t expecting Arthur to reach out and say he was coming to Montana to join us. That thought never crossed my mind with everything he had going on at the coven. But now that it was going to happen, it seemed like my mind couldn’t focus on anything but that.
“You seem not yourself. Is everything all right?” Alistair asked.
I grinned at our son. “Yes. Your father just reached out. It seems as if he will be able to get away for a bit and will be joining us here. I wasn’t expecting that, but I’m happy he is able to get away. Even if it’s only for a day or two.”
Alistair and River both smiled. “It will be nice to see Father again. I know there was some tension between him and a few atthe council with regards to offering sanctuary to those from the Venice coven. The issue has been resolved, but it was still there,” Alistair said.
“Yes. He mentioned it to me at the time. We had a long discussion about it before he contacted Edison with a final answer.”
Alistair chuckled. “Did you hear what Grandfather did?” Alistair asked.
I glanced to River, who was smirking. “No. What did he do?”
“He at first told the council that Father, as well as two of the other coven masters, had withdrawn their offer to host the displaced warlocks. Most of the other created ones were in on the ruse, but Alpha Igor most certainly wasn’t. They made him feel terrible for several days, blaming him for the lack of support from others because of his temperament.”
“That’s terrible,” I said. It truly was. Immediately, I could understand why they did it, but the fact that they had was horrible.
“He deserved it. More, actually,” Alistair said. I’ve only had to deal with him on one occasion, and it was more than enough. He is very much like his animal side and is incredibly difficult and argumentative.”
That didn’t sound like a fun experience at all.
“My love? Where are you?”
I grinned.“I’m at Alistair and River’s. We were all having a chat while the kids are with Wallace.”
“Father must be talking to him.”
I looked over at my son. “He is. He should be here shortly,” I told them just as a knock sounded at the door. Alistair chuckled.
“And he should be back here with us in about three seconds.”
I stood and turned just in time to see Arthur enter the room. He was wearing jeans and a sweater, which told me he’dchanged right before he left because he wouldn’t wear that while welcoming new members into the coven.
I held out my arms, and Arthur immediately wrapped me in his embrace. It was difficult to keep the kiss short after having spent the past few days apart, but I knew there would be plenty more kisses later when we were in the privacy of our own room at the cabin I was staying in.
“I missed you,” Arthur said. Even after all of these centuries, he still looked at me with so much love in his expression.
“Same. I’m thrilled you were able to get away. Even if it’s only for a day or two. Not that I can’t pop back in to see you anytime I wish, but I knew you were busy.”
Arthur leaned closer and kissed my forehead. “I will never be too busy for you, my love.” Arthur pulled away and then walked over to Alistair and River. He gave both of them hugs before we sat on the couch with our son and his One.
