Page 6 of Truth
“If the only way we can get information is to bring him with us, what choice do we have? Besides, he has a nice butt.” I shrugged, and both Oak and Justice glared.
“You think it is nice?” Lenin asked like he genuinely wanted to know, instead of registering that I was only saying it to tease the others. Though it really was nice.
“Very much so.”
He gave a curt nod, “You too have a nice . . . butt.” He stepped closer,
“And you smell pleasant.”
Justice crowded closer, “For someone who claims to see the future, you seem to fail at seeing the beating I’m about to hand you.”
“I do see the future. Everything. I’ve never been wrong.” Lenin stated as he looked down at Justice.
“I’m sure you’re amazing at seeing everything. Now if you don’t mind, put some space between yourself and the girl.” Justice took a step closer, wedging himself between me and Lenin before taking his palm and pushing him back. A flash of light temporarily blinded me. Lenin jolted back as if he got hit with electricity instead of a slight nudge of a palm.
Lenin’s palm touched his chest as he pulled at his tunic. “You shocked me.”
“I did no such thing.” Justice spat. “We don’t need him.”
As if completely unaware that we were all standing there, Lenin grabbed his tunic and pulled upward, removing it from his body. My eyes were solidly fixed on the ripple of jade color abs for far longer than I would like to admit. When I finally forced my eyes away and up, I stumbled back, my body caught by the wooden table behind me.
The room was silent until Lenin finally spoke, “I – I did not see that coming.” He mumbled as he stared down at Justice’s mark, a mark identical to my own, etched into his skin.
Chapter 4
LIBERTY
The silence was brokenby the rich sound of pure joyous laughter as Oak, normally so solemn, couldn’t seem to handle his amusement. All eyes fell to him as he bellowed his hilarity and honestly, it was hot. My palm was starting to sweat, and my thighs were clenching just from watching him while all thoughts went south - hot.
Lenin stared, “I do not find this humorous.”
“I mean,” Oak gulped down breaths, “It really is.”
“You will stop laughing now.” Lenin instructed as he rubbed at his chest and though I should be just as horrified as the rest of them, I was resigned to the fact that these things keep finding me and I can’t even fight it any longer. I tried to stop the smile from taking over my lips, but it was no use. Once the smile took hold, the laugher shortly followed.
Both Lenin and Justice watched us, their mouth gaping as Oak and I got our laugher out. Each time we paused, seeming to get it under control, but then we would only look at each other and another burst would break. When we both had settled down, we finally braved a look at the two grumpy paranormal men in front of us.
“Why was this so funny?” Lenin asked, “He marked me.”
I rolled my eyes, “Don’t act like this is his first time slapping one of those babies on the unsuspected.”
“I do not understand, Little Kitten.”
“What she means is,” Oak had to add his two cents into the conversation, “Liberty goes around collecting mates like the nineties collected beanie babies.”
“I see.” Lenin paused, “So you have a collection then.”
Oak snorted, and Justice just stood there, blinking. Shock. He had to be in shock. “We will go with that.”
“I do not like him. He is arrogant and entitled.” Lenin announced and fuck, why did I find his childlike filter adorable?
“He’ll grow on you.” I promised.
“I do not think so.” He paused, looking down at Justice’s mark, “This will not do.”
He turned, frantically looking through his table supplies, “I need to find a glamour so as to not announce my acquaintance with the wolf.”
“You might want to cover up the fact that you’re green. And have husks, too. We are entering the human world.” I pointed out.
