“She’s in danger.”

“Fine. I’ll let the others know to give your place a wide berth and not get too interested in the scent of the female. Especially, an aroused one.”

Heat flowed through Adam’s body because he had smelled her honeyed arousal and he wondered what she’d taste like. How sweet she’d be on his tongue.

“You may have to take them to the city for some…relief,” Adam offered, tactfully.

Benjamin’s eyes lit up. “So, our guardian is allowing us to go to Thunder Bay without him?”

Adam didn’t really want to let them go. It was dangerous in the city, but with a female in such close proximity, it would be cruel to keep them around. It was bad enough that he was so close to Aoife and couldn’t do anything.

Benjamin was the second eldest and could take care of the other five brothers. At least Adam hoped so.

“Yes,” Adam answered. “Fight, do whatever you guys can, but try not to cause a scene for the humans and try not to get yourselves killed. I promised mother and father on their death beds I would take care of you fools.”

“I swear we’ll be good.” Benjamin shimmied up a tamarack tree and then began grunting loudly, wildly, letting the others know what was going on. There were five faint responses, acknowledging to keep away from Adam’s place for the time being, and that they were going to head to Thunder Bay for a couple of days.

Benjamin slid down the tree, and it swayed back and forth. “I’ll do some networking for the lumber business too.”

Adam cocked an eyebrow. “Really?”

“Of course. You’ve finally cut the apron strings and I’ll be the eldest in town. See you in a couple of days.” Benjamin melted back into the woods, disappearing like his kind did so well. At least that was one less thing to worry about.

Adam continued his way down to the lake, stripped off his jeans, undid his long hair from where he’d tied it back, and then headed into the lake, diving straight under the bitter cold water. He surfaced, taking a deep breath, hoping it would help cool him off.

It didn’t. He couldn’t get Aoife out of his mind.

He ran his hands through his hair and looked up on the shore to see Aoife standing there. She was watching him, a smile tugging on her luscious pink lips.

He paddled closer. “What’re you doing here? How did you know I was here?”

“I’m a banshee. I visualized where you were. Besides, a locked door won’t hold, especially ones without protections and charms.”

He laughed softly. “It was more to keep my brothers out.”

An amused smile crossed her face. “I heard hooting. Did they leave?”

He nodded. “They did.”

“So, no need to lock me in.”

“Why come find me?” he asked.

A devious smile curled on her lips, her black eyes twinkling. “Why not? Maybe I’ve reconsidered your offer.”

“What offer?” he asked, but he knew, his body ignited into an explosive inferno.

“Your offer to scent me,” she whispered, her arousal thick in the air. “What do you say?”

Aoife didn’t know what had made her change her mind about Adam putting his scent on her. It wasn’t like she was some kind of quivering virgin. Although it had been some time since she’d been with someone. Like the rest of her Order, her dating life was regulated.

Sex was ritual.

Not pleasure.

And not many people particularly liked her kind.
