Page 45 of Love Defies Us
“I asked you a fucking question. Did you threaten my son?” He twirls her around as if she’s a ballerina, and she shrugs. Her facial expression is blank.
My mother is a heartless bitch. She really doesn’t have any remorse for the shit that she does. How the hell did my dad put up with her crap all these years? I would have clocked out of that relationship a long time ago. It takes a strong person to handle her, and I’m not one of them.
“You know the real reason why she wants to marry you is because my father is divorcing her. He found out about the affair. And she lost all her millions because Dad locked her out of all his accounts so she couldn’t steal his money.”
She looks at me with shock on her face, and she grinds her teeth together so hard that they might break.
“What? Cat got your tongue?” I smirk as if I’m a warrior that just won a war.
“It’s over between us,” Mr. Sawyer says, gripping her chin hard. “I cheated on my dying wife with you. I almost sabotaged my relationship with my son, and you pull this shit?”
She yanks her chin from his grip and turns towards me.
“You bitch. You ruin everything. I should have dumped you in the trash can when you were born.” Her words sting because I still love her despite her being a bitch. I still care about her. But I’ve accepted her for who she is as a self-centered, controlling, abusive bitch. Like my grandma used to say when she was alive: when a person shows you who they are, believe them. This is my mother.
She raises her hand to strike me, and Mr. Sawyer catches her. She tries to yank her wrist from his grip. “Let me go!”
“Don’t you ever put your hands her. I’m kicking you off my gravy train, now pack your shit and leave. I want you out of here by the end of the day,” he says. I mouth thank you and he nods in approval.
I stood up to my mother and I conquered my demon.

The day I leave for tour…
I load my bags into the little cabin in the bus that’s parked outside my house. I sit next to Azrael who’s looking out the window. Aurora is in the back cabin and Easton in the bathroom. I take out Sadie’s diary and rest it on the brown round table. She didn’t change the code to enter her apartment, so I stole one of Sadie’s diaries when she wasn’t home. The one she wrote about how she loves me. I need to take a piece of her with me. Our fling was short-lived, but she made an impact on my soul.
I never plan to give it back to her. After all, I lost the love of my life, and even though it makes me sound pussy whipped, I don’t care. Our first concert is going to be in Nashville, and we have a long ride a head of us.
“Who’s pulling up to your driveway in a black Mercedes?” Azrael asks and I turn to look out the window. My pulse quickens and my mouth goes dry. I jump up from my chair and leave the bus.
Sadie throws the car in park, jumps out, and rushes into my chest, wrapping her tiny arms around my waist. My heart hammers in my chest and my dick gets hard. So fucking hard.
She takes a step back and her cheeks are flushed, and she looks at my noticeably hard dick. I readjust myself and stare at her as if she’s still my Thumbelina.
She smells like my new home, hope, and fresh opportunities.
Our new manager, Alyssa, which by the way has been a pain in my fucking ass, ducks her head out the window.
“You have twenty minutes.” Her voice is soft as pillows then she disappears inside the bus.
Sadie and I stare at each other long and hard. Neither of us is saying anything. Just staring as if this will be the last time we’ll see each other. Her mother could ruin my career, so I need to be a dick.
”What the fuck are you doing here?” I need to be harsh. So she’ll get the memo that we can’t be together. “Didn’t I tell you I don’t want you?”
”Shut up,” she says. “I figured out why you broke up with me. So, drop the tough guy act.”
I don’t respond as I continue to stare at her.
”You don’t have to worry about Trish, I handled the situation.”
I tilt my head to the side. “How?”
”I paid her a visit and I used her shit against her.” She stands on her tippy toes, kisses me on the lips, and I fucking melt. “I want to see my boyfriend before he leaves for tour. And tell him to have a safe trip.”
I smile as if she told me that I hit the lottery, because who am I kidding? I’m in love with this girl. I grab her by the ass, pull her close to me, and kiss her. Her mouth on me heats up every cell and fiber in my body.
“Where’s my goddamn pecan pie?” I hear Easton yell and walk off the bus. I pull away from Sadie and cock my eyebrow.
