“How much?” She’s playing with me.
“I’d have to show you.”
“Then show me.”
“You sure you want to see?” I press my forehead to hers and kiss the top of her nose.
“I do.”
Those words, like the vows we’ll take next week, unlock my desire for her again and seconds later I’m buried inside her. And we don’t stop there. I fuck her over and over again until my fucking cock feels raw from being inside her.
She doesn’t fall asleep until the sun rises. I don’t sleep. Instead, I watch her.
I have to head out in less than two hours. I want to brief my men first, so I get up and decide to start the day.
I jump in the shower and get ready quickly then head downstairs to speak to my men.
When I’m done I head back upstairs to Gabriella to say goodbye to her. Before I reach the door I hear her on the phone speaking in a hushed tone.
“Today, Cora? That’s so little time,” she says, sounding agitated and anxious.
I stop by the door, my gut senses tingling, telling me I shouldn’t interrupt just yet. The door is ajar so I peek in and see her sitting on the edge of the bed with the sheet wrapped around her body. She’s got the phone at her ear and her face is drawn in trepidation.
“Of course. I just… Jaxon...” She pauses for a moment. “Okay, okay. I’ll be ready for some sunshine.”
Something about the way she says those last words catches my attention. Her tone doesn’t match the words and it makes me think she’s talking about something else. Like she’s speaking in code. The sudden thought snaps my mind out of that lusty haze.
Something is going on. Something that prickles my nerves and pulls on my gut.
In all my years my gut has never let me down. It won’t now, not even for the beautiful woman I’ve allowed to get under my skin by riding my cock.
She sets the phone down and I push the door open.
The slight widening of her eyes gives her away even though she tries to school her face.
“Morning,” she says, offering me a little smile—another giveaway. Not the smile but the nerves lurking beneath it. “I thought you’d left.”
“I’m on my way out. I just came to say goodbye.”
She presses her lips together and the look in her eyes turns sad, almost regretful.
I walk up to her, crouch down and gaze into her eyes. “Remember to call me.”
“I’ll remember.”
“Good. See you when I get back.”
Her gaze drops to her lap for a moment, a moment of hesitation, and I have an idea of what might be going on in that pretty little head of hers.
Her plans.
There’s only one thing I know she wants more than me.
Freedom.
Freedom from everything. Includingme.
If I’m right then we have a problem.
