Page 2 of Never Forget You

But then if my parents are going to bring me to a place like this and tell me to make the best of it because I have no choice, then why the hell not? Why shouldn’t I enjoy myself in any way that I can? And a guy as hot at this will surely make everyone I know jealous. My vacation might turn out to be the best one, after all.

HARRY

“Wow,” I gasp as I catch sight of the most beautiful blonde woman I’ve ever seen, sitting on the beach alone, looking a little forlorn, to be honest. “Look at her, Matthew. She’s beautiful. She’s something else.”

Tall, leggy, blonde, with the most stunning, sparkling blue eyes that I’ve ever seen in my life. She’s not from around here. That much is instantly obvious, especially since it’s tourist season, but that doesn’t change how the world falls away from underneath me as I spot her. I’ve liked girls before, but this is world-changing. It’s endless. It’s different. It’s like the foundation that my life has been built up on has been whipped away and I’m floating. I like it.

“Yeah, she seems nice.” Matthew shrugs one shoulder, looking totally unbothered by this life-changing sight.

“Nice?Nice?Matthew, I can’t believe what you’re saying. She’s perfect. Beautiful. Gorgeous. Adorable.”

Matthew cocks a suspicious eyebrow at me. “What are you talking about, Harry? I’ve never heard you gushing about awoman before. You’re usually so cool about everything. What has happened? Have you melted?”

I toss my head back and laugh. “I don’t know, Matthew. I can’t explain it. She’s just done something to me. I feel all different. She’s special, I can’t explain it. I feel different just looking at her. It’s like love at first sight or something. I feel like I’m going to marry her already. Is that absolutely crazy? I think I might be crazy.”

“You are seventeen years old, Harry Jones,” Matthew tells me firmly. “Can you stop it? You sound like some crazy, romantic idiot, a foolish teenager who’s dripping in puppy love, and you haven’t even spoken to her yet… and that’s without even mentioning that she’s clearly a rich chick. I mean, look at that outfit. Look at her. She’s a city girl with tons of money, and do those girls ever come here and marry guys like us? No, of course they don’t.”

He’s saying this in an attempt to bring me down, to knock my confidence so I don’t do anything stupid, but it doesn’t affect me at all. If anything, I laugh a little louder. “I didn’t know you were so cynical, Matthew.”

“I’m not old enough to be a hopeless romantic or a cynical person, Harry, nor are you. So, just stop it. We should head back home about now, anyway, because we have to get ready for the carnival tonight.”

“Ooh, the carnival. Now that gives me an idea.” My eyes light up in delight. “I’m going to invite her to come.”

“Will you stop it?” Matthew punches me playfully in the arm. “Just look at her. Of course she isn’t going to agree to go to thecarnival with you. Look at her. I’m sure she’s going to have some fancy meal tonight.”

“Don’t be so judgmental, Matthew. You don’t know anything about that woman. She might not be how you think. And anyway, it wouldn’t put me off because I think she’s lovely and I like her a lot.”

With a confident swagger and a playful wink in my friend’s direction, I walk over to the woman. Sure, my heart is hammering and my breaths are a little sharp and short. I am nervous, I can’t deny it… but there’s a little bit of pleasure deep inside me because Iknowwithout even talking to this woman that there is something special between us.

The nerves and butterflies feel good. I like it a lot. I’ve honestly never felt this way in my life before, and it’s great. If this is what love at first sight is, then I’m all about it. I’m going to enjoy every moment of it.

“Hello?” Her eyes are upon me. She seems a little confused, but she definitely doesn’t hate that I’ve come over to speak to her with a confident swagger. “My name is Harry. I just thought it might be nice to come and say hi.”

“Oh, yeah?” She cocks one eyebrow at me. “Well, hello. Is there any reason you’ve picked me to talk to?”

She knows that I’ve been watching her for a while. We’ve shared eye contact and a little smile, so I can tell that she’s playing a game with me, and I like it a lot. I bet she’s a lot of fun if she’s up for some teasing.

“Well, you’re beautiful.” I’m just going to be honest with my feelings. “And I thought it might be cool to chat. Unless you’rehere waiting for someone. I wouldn’t want to get in the way of anything…”

“I don’t have anything going on.” She pats the patch of sand next to her, inviting me to sit with her. I do eagerly, so glad that things are going just as well as I thought they would. I just knew this woman would be my soulmate. “And I’m Georgia, by the way. Thank you for coming to chat with me, Harry.”

Ooh, I love the way my name sounds as it rolls off her tongue. It’s sexy as all hell. I nearly crumble.

“So, what brings you to this town?” I ask curiously. “I know you aren’t from around here.”

“Oh, my family brought me on holiday here.” She rolls her eyes. “I’m not exactly happy about it because I don’t know anyone my own age here, but my father won’t listen. He doesn’t listen to anything I say.”

“Well, you know me now. I’m your age.” I smile, hoping that this will help her. “So, that could help, maybe?”

“Yeah, right. That’s true.” She nods and grins right back at me, her eyes shining with happiness. She nearly takes my breath away with how beautiful she is. I really haven’t ever seen anyone as gorgeous as this. “Thank you, Harry. You might well be the person to make my vacation a little less shitty, which makes me very happy.”

My hand is almost touching hers, and it makes my pulse speed rapidly. I can feel my heart pounding in my mouth. If I could just inch my fingers a couple more centimeters, then we could be touching. I almost cave to it, I almost give in, but I decide to hold back for just a couple of moments. Just because I know that she is my soulmate doesn’t mean she knows it just yet. She mightneed some time, and for a woman like Georgia, I am willing to wait.

“The ocean is nice though, right?” I ask with a teasing tone. “I don’t know where you’re from, but you can’t have water like this. So, that has to be a good thing for you. It might make the holiday better?”

“It’s okay. I don’t know how nice it really is because I haven’t been in it yet.”
