Moving down the hall, I stop outside of Silver’s old room, and then enter. Myah and Mylie are on the other side of the house, so they won’t know how weak I am when I kick my shoes off and climb under her blankets.

It still smells like her, and I pass out the moment my head hits the pillow.

“Kennedy, get back here!”Silver shouts as our son races down the hall nude. He always hates bath nights, but I can’t blame him. Between his mother and Don, they load him down with tons of different potions and lotions.

“What are you doing, little guy?” I coo, and he runs right into my arms.

“Daddy,” he squeals, and my heart jumps.

Looking up at me with his silver eyes that have a red ring around them, he gives me a smile.

“Jax, please return him. He doesn’t have his nighttime lotion or pajamas on yet,” Silver groans, moving down the hall with a hand on her large stomach. Merida follows with a giant yellow robe.

“Master Kennedy, you know better than to work your mama up. She’s going to have your brother and sister anyday now,” she scolds, and he clutches my legs tighter, before stepping back and looking at his feet.

“I don’t like the purple lotion. It makes me smell like a girl,” he mumbles and I laugh, waving my hand. The bottle appears and I give Silver a look.

“Really, with all the magic and potions we are capable of, you bought some common Johnsons and Johnsons lavender lotion?”

“It’s what my mother used on me and my siblings. It is perfectly fine, Jax!” she growls, and her eyes begin to glow. I know I need to diffuse her before her temper rises, and we need to remodel another wing.

A pregnant Silver can be dangerous. She is the mother of the next generation of the Star Coven after all. Our children are more powerful than Luke could have ever dreamed of.

“Mama, I’m sorry,” Kennedy stutters, before running into Silver’s legs and almost knocking her over. I grab her arm to steady her and she sighs.

“I know, baby. I’m just tired, and it’s past your bedtime. So let’s hurry and then we can have some of the cookies that Merida made before bed.”

I wakeup tangled in the sheets and covered in sweat. My stomach is in knots, and I feel sick.

Was that a dream caused by my drunken stupor, or a vision? I close my eyes and try to concentrate. Maybe I can get it to come back, to show me more? But nothing, nada, zilch.

Fuck! Shoving the blankets off, I portal into the bathroom, so I can shower. I’m still wearing my suit from last night, and Ismell like a distillery. I need to get changed and contact Kane. I don’t know if he planned for me to play Knucklebones today, but I need to find Don.

After I’m clean and dressed, I enter Don’s room and take the secret passage to the chamber below us. The only way to make a call to Hell is with blood in a chalice, and I don’t think Myah’s ready to see that, or would like her daughter to be around during that.

No, it’s better to just hang out down here until Kane calls me back. If I can’t find any news about Don, I may need to suck it up and go home. Ask for help.

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

WELLSON

TWELVE HOURS EARLIER

I’m trapped in a never ending nightmare. I can hear all the people around me, talking and praying, but my body won’t respond. I lie here day after day in a semi-conscious state.

A magical coma as Arrow likes to put it. I know that I need to wake up and put my family out of their misery, but it's not timeyet. I don’t want to leave this state of mind, where all I see, hear and smell is her. My Snow.

No, I'm not ready to return to the land of the living yet, but that doesn’t mean that people need to know I'm awake.

I keep my eyes closed, listening, but all I hear is a woman humming down the hall. Taking a chance that the coast is clear, I open my eyes, but only a crack.

My room looks like a disaster blew through here. There are maps and crystals, melted candles and books all over the floor.

My armchair has been moved closer to my bed and it's covered in blankets with a pillow.

Shit, Arrow has been sleeping in here? I knew he visited, but I didn't realize the extent.

Maybe it is time for me to come back…
