Page 93 of His Little Devil
Leaning down, I whisper into his ear, “You are going to be my greatest legacy, Forest Kennedy Diavolo.”
My eyesopen and I smile, pulling my Little Devil closer to me as she sleeps. The Springs. I don’t know why I didn’t think of itsooner. It’s always held the powers of healing and helped women with conceiving.
I will have to take Silver there immediately. It’s been too long now with no chance of her getting pregnant. I still adore my queen, but she needs to give me an heir to fulfill the prophecy before it’s too late.
I fear my time is running out.
CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE
SILVER
Six months have passed since the wedding, but time in Hell is different. I thought it was just a few weeks off. No one told me that Luke could freeze time here or skip days, weeks, months. He seems in a hurry to rush something, but I haven’t figured out what it is yet.
“Do you have any clue as to what my surprise is?” I ask Kane as we walk down to the dungeons to feed the hounds. I have become quite attached to them as I am not allowed to have dogs of my own or a pet tiger.
Luke thinks Grumpy is enough for me, though lately he seems sad, and I think he needs a friend. He doesn’t even enjoy his salmon treats.
“No, he hasn’t said anything besides that you guys will be gone for a few days, and I am in charge. Oh and I need to keep Thimon away from you.”
I laugh at that, rolling my eyes. “If I had my way, I'd just have him kicked out of the castle,” I mumble, and Kane snorts, pulling me closer into his arms.
“Love, can I ask you something?” he says, looking off at the cinder block walls, avoiding my eyes.
“Always,” I breathe and he sighs.
“Are you happy? I know you never pictured this life even if it was always meant to happen. But do you wish that you had sacrificed your love to stay at the Academy?”
My heart begins to race and my eyes water at what he's insinuating. “Wow,” I gasp, and he grunts.
“I didn't mean to upset you. I've just noticed you changing, and I know it's inevitable. The more you live in Hell the darker you will become, but I want you to know that you can fight it. You're stronger than you know, and one day you will do extraordinary things.”
I'm quiet for a minute, thinking over his words. I know he's right and know it doesn't matter anymore.
Shaking my head, I wipe my eyes and continue moving along the desolate chambers.
“It doesn't matter, Kane. The old Silver is gone. Do I sometimes wish I could see the Academy again and the guys… Yes, I don't think I will ever stop loving them, but I'm with you and Luke now. We are creating a new future, a new family.”
“Interesting choice of words, love.”
Reaching for my hand once more, he entwines our fingers, and I push forward to the dungeon where they keep the hounds.
I play for a few hours, teaching Ramsi and Nyx to play fetch and Kane laughs using his powers to turn the dark, disgusting, dank cellar into a pets paradise.
I know it's all an illusion, but the green grass and trees surrounding us makes me smile.
I can almost feel the breeze against my face and the sun warming my skin.
Magic is so freaking cool sometimes.
We leave the hounds to continue frolicking in the tall grass and head back upstairs.
My stomach has been growling for an hour and though we could have conjured something, I learned my lesson last time.
The hounds attack at the scent of food and fear.
I have a small scar on my ass to prove it.
We don't stop at the kitchen like I thought we would. Kane leads me to Luke's office and doesn't bother knocking.
