“Thank you guys. For today, for the gift, all of it. You’ll never know how much it truly means to me.” I whisper out, exhausted at this point.

“You’re welcome, Baby Girl. Least we could do is show you how much you really mean to us.” Reyes replies back, kissing the top of my head.

Closing my eyes, I feel my body drifting off to sleep, finally feeling at peace.

Chapter thirty-one

Damien

Sitting in Naomi’s office with her, Zeke, Eddie and Marco, we all sit in silence as we wait for Raven to come in. Apparently, they have some updates for her and I’m not fucking sure I like how this is going to go. Walking through the door, she comes and stands by where I’m leaning against the desk and folds her arms as we wait for the shit storm to unfold.

“So apparently, Brock has a brother. One reason we didn’t know sooner, is because they don’t share the same last name. However, more and more shit keeps unfolding. I don’t know where he is, but I’m digging deeper. Even though I’m not fully convinced it’s him. How would he even know we’re the ones who killed Brock? I had everything destroyed and the house literally wiped clean. Your mom doesn’t even know where you are, just that you moved on to bigger and better things.” Eddie breathes out, looking up at Raven, he strums his fingers on his knee.Damn anxious tics.

“I don’t fucking know, but I’ll kill him just the same. I give no fucks right now. First off, don’t come for me and secondly, don’t come for my family.” Raven spits, the fury written all over her features.

“I’ll be there with her, because who the fuck does he think he is? She’ll never go through the bullshit she’s already been put through ever again, and I know damn well Luis and Reyes feel the same way.” I retort, getting more and more agitated the longer I sit here and think about the fuckery my girl had to go through. Bringing her hand down, she interlocks her fingers with mine and gives a gentle squeeze, easing my mind a little.

“I know that, but don’t think for a second I’m going to let anything happen to her. That’s where you're dead wrong. I’ve got all my contacts on this, plus Zeke is fixing to shoot Luis a text since he’s better at digging into people than most.” Eddie states, standing up and looking me dead in the eyes. He may be her father figure, but I’d give my life for hers, without even blinking.

“Okay, everyone fucking chill. Fuckin’ Christ.” Raven spits, her accent getting thicker the angrier she gets. Naomi and Marco are just sitting there, wild looks crossing their faces at everyone going back and forth at each other.

“So, get Luis to look into it more. Fine. This shit needs to end, and fucking soon, or I’m going to start dropping bodies.” I seethe, gripping Raven’s hand tighter. Grabbing her bag and tossing it over my shoulder, I storm out of the office, through the gym, and out the front door, pulling her along with me. Opening the car door, Raven slides in and grabs her bag from me. Rounding the car and getting in, I start it up and pull out into traffic. Getting on the interstate, I head towards the guy’s shop. Hearing her giggling next to me, has me turning and looking at her.

“What’s so funny, Angel?” I question and quirk a brow at her.

“Oh nothing, Casanova. Just never seen you this irritated.” She quips, still chuckling.

“I’m a little less aggravated now, hearing you laugh. Nice to know that seeing me like this is funny to you.” I reply, laying my hand on her thigh and gently squeezing.

“It’s not, not really. I know this is my fault, and I never wanted to bring anyone else into my fucked up lifestyle.” She murmurs, laying her hand on mine. I’ve come to realize anytime she feels anxious or upset when we’re near, she has to touch one of us, if not all three. Like we ground her somehow. Which, in all honesty, she grounds us to.

“It’s not your fault, baby. None of this is on you and I’d gladly give my life protecting you from going through that shit again.” I breathe out, taking a deep inhale. Looking over at her, her eyebrows furrow and a look of confusion crosses her face, or maybe it’s sadness.

“That’s the thing, I’d give my life to save y’alls, so how does that story end? I’d rather give myself up at this point and save everyone else. No one needs to die for me.” She quips, turning and looking out the window. Little does she know, no one is dying. I won’t let anything happen to her or my brothers. They are all I have. SHE’s all I have.

Turning up the radio asSin so SweetbyWarren Zeiderscomes on, I grab her hand and sing along. Looking over at me, she gives me a small smile and sings along too.Little does she know, this song makes me think about her every time I hear it.This girl. She’s all I have ever wanted.

Pulling into the shop, we get out and head inside. We wanted her to be a part of what we do. Since we have a shipment going out tonight, we thought why not let her come help.

“So this is how y’all get them through? Put them in bike parts? So it just looks like we’re shipping out parts instead of weapons. That’s actually pretty smart.” She blurts out, seeming honestly intrigued at the system we set up for ourselves. It works though, so no complaints.

Getting to work, we get everything put where it goes. It only takes a couple of hours, maybe a little longer tonight with us all cutting up and messing around. When she’s around, it’s hard to be serious all the time. Once the parts are boxed and loaded into the crate, we sit and wait on the box truck to come pick it up.

Not even twenty minutes later, he’s backing up to the garage door, and once it’s loaded, we lock up the shop and head home.

Pulling up to the house, Raven jumps out in a hurry and rushes inside. What the hell?Getting out, I run in after her andfind her in the kitchen. I can’t help but chuckle as she’s throwing bag after bag of candy on the counter and looking over at me.

“Hurry, there’s three Halloween bowls in that cabinet, grab them and bring them here so I can fill them with candy.” She rushes out. Grabbing the bowls and setting them down on the counter, she starts filling them.

Hurrying in, Reyes and Luis look at both of us with a worried look on their faces.

“What the fuck, Princess? Why’d you run in like that?” Luis questions, trying to catch his breath.

“The kids are coming and I forgot to put candy out! So grab a bowl and a bag of candy and start filling them.” She orders, and no one hesitates. The three of us look at each other and share a quick chuckle before falling in line with her order. Once the bowls are full, we take them outside and set them up on the little table she has on her front porch before she reaches back in the door to turn on her porch light. Picking up the remote for the gate, she sets it to ‘Open’ and kids start walking up the driveway. One after another, they walk up to her saying, “Trick or Treat” as she hands them a handful of candy with the biggest smile on her face.

After about an hour, the candy is all gone and we all walk in, flopping down on the couch.

“Damn, Baby Girl. I didn’t know you were that serious about Halloween, or we’d have had all of it done for you and set out already.” Reyes chuckles softly. He picks up the remote and starts flipping through the scary movies. Grabbing the blanket from the back of the couch, I lay it across us as Raven lays her head on my shoulder. Reyes chooses, ‘The Hills Have Eyes’, of all the movies to watch. Not creepy at all.
