Page 78 of Tangled Emotions
I felt the small smile on my face. “Fair enough.”
Turning back to the sink, I plunged my hands into the water to pull out dishes to run through the washer.
“By the way, Evie will be back.”
Throwing my wet hands up in the air again, I snapped. “Where did she go?”
“Said she’d back A. S. A. P.” He shrugged and went back to work.
Growling, I went back to dishes. “Fucking Evie.”
What on earth is so important that she left work? Why didn’t she say anything to me?
Drying my hands off, I got my phone out and messaged her.
Where the hell did you go?
To get a gift for you
I don’t need shit except for you to come back and work
Listen crab ass it’s a gift and you need it
Evelyn.
Edith.
Hurry back
I swear I’ll be back soon
You just need to trust me and quit being a sourpuss
Rolling my eyes, I put my phone back in my pocket and finished the dishes. When I went back out front, Gene was helping the church ladies who meet here for morning bible studies and Evie strolled in empty-handed.
“What was so important?”
“You.” She went behind the counter and got her apron. “You never take time to pamper yourself. So I went and took care of it. You have a salon appointment Friday at noon. Take Marina a horseshoe, so while you’re processing she can eat.”
She tilted her head, smiling. “Your dress is hung up on the back of your door. Along with your new bra and panties.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I found youthesexiest little black wrap dress, sexy as sin underthings, and you’re getting your hair done.”
“What? Why?”
“Edith, you’re going on an actual date.” She grabbed my shoulders. “I assume he treats you like the goddess you are, so you need to dress up, get fancy, and let nature take its course.”
“How do you know what size bra?” I narrowed my eyes.
“Remember when we were ordering bras? Mom measured us?”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.” She smiled bigger. “It will lift the girls up and make it so Frank will want to skip dinner.” She winked.
I stood there, pressing my lips together, trying to stop the tears that filled my eyes.
