He could barely take his eyes off her. She had no self-consciousness about devouring her burger, which he found refreshing. She seemed to be lightening up and was returning to the Darcy he remembered from last Thanksgiving. Flirty and funny.

“So, what’s it like to be such a sexy and handsome vet like yourself?” she asked. “I’ll bet you have all the farm girls chasing you around the barn. not to mention the hay lofts.”

“You have no idea. It’s downright exhausting,” he grinned.

“Have you ever done it in a barn?” she asked mischievously.

“I never kiss and tell,” he parried easily.

“Well, that’s no fun,” she answered, pouting playfully. “Maybe we should try it together sometime,” she said, her tongue loosening up with her second beer.

Sam just smiled, then he suggested they put their quarters up for a game of pool. She agreed, and he walked over to the table and placed the coins on the edge. The current game was almost over, with the soon-to-be-winning pair just trying to sink the eight ball. Darcy went over to join Sam, and they leaned against the back counter waiting for their turn to shoot. Sam walked over to the jukebox and made some selections. When he returned, their game was up and Darcy was chalking her cue stick to make the first break. They were playing a couple of guys Darcy had seen before but didn’t really know.

“Hi, I’m Jack and this here is Joe.”

The two men introduced themselves and couldn’t help but stare at Darcy. They were obviously doing their best but could hardly keep their eyes off her. She had removed her sweater and her creamy pale arms were slim and toned in her sleeveless shirt. The black velvet V-neck was tucked in, showing off her curvy figure in the tight jeans. When she leaned over the table to take aim, the swell of her breasts peaked out from behind a thick curtain of her glorious copper and orange hair.

“Well boys, here goes,” she said provocatively.

Sam was having trouble concentrating himself. He couldn’t believe Darcy was his date. He hoped he could make a few good shots and not look like a complete idiot. Darcy had a very good break, getting three solids in the pockets and setting them up well.

She continued shooting and sunk one more in before missing her next shot, ending her turn. She returned to Sam’s side and faced him, putting her hands on his chest and looking up at him through her long lashes saying, “Now, cowboy, let’s see what you’re made of.”

Sam was lost. When it came to light and flirty, he was way out of his league here. When Darcy turned it on, it was amped-up full-on electric. He was invigorated just to be in her presence. Fire, he thought. He hoped he wouldn’t get burned. His expression serious, he looked deeply into her eyes and thought he saw a flicker of doubt or insecurity, but then it was gone just as quickly, as she turned to laugh at something Joe or Jack had said. That slight reveal proved to him that she was much more comfortable in the superficial realm, where he was just the opposite and thrived in intimacy.

They took the first game but lost the second. As their game ended, one of the songs Sam had played, “Making Memories,” came on, and Sam took Darcy’s hand and led her to the small dance floor. He pulled her in close and took the lead as the romantic lyrics filled the room. Singing along softly in her ear, the lyrics about promising love, speaking her language, and earning her trust felt as if they were branding her skin. She had heard the song many times before, but the lyrics were taking on a whole new meaning while being held in Sam’s embrace. Darcy, a little tipsy by now, relaxed into his arms and laid her head on his shoulder as he held her tight against him, expertly leading her around the small square of dance floor. She pressed herself into him and felt an immediate response as he began to grow hard against her. Several other couples had joined them dancing and swaying to the music.

As the song ended, Darcy looked up at Sam and he leaned down and softly kissed her full lips. She put her arms around his neck and held him there, deepening the kiss by opening her mouth and slipping her tongue between his lips. Sam groaned and gently lifted his head smiling down at her bemused expression.

“Hey, Shamrock, think we should depart?”

“Yes,” she whispered, unconsciously licking her lips, all flirtatiousness gone, now replaced with an awareness of the energy surging between them.

“I’ll settle up the bill then,” Sam said.

While they were waiting for the truck to warm up, Sam leaned his seat back and pulled Darcy onto his lap.

“Ms. Morgan you have me completely captivated.”

Leaning in, he kissed her slowly at first, then with her passionate response, he deepened the kiss, plunging his tongue into her moist mouth. She dug her fingers into his hair, devouring him as if she could never get enough. She met his tongue hungrily with her own. She pulled his bottom lip into her mouth and gently suckled and tugged, suggestive of things to come. Feeling his arousal beneath her, she rubbed her seat against his groin. He groaned and placed his hand over her breast and massaged through her clothing, wanting, to tear it off right there in the truck and have her. She arched her back, inviting him to explore further. Sam pulled back, moved his hand to her waist, leaned his head against the seat and closed his eyes letting out a shaky breath.

“Darcy, Darcy, Darcy, you are exquisite.”

“Sam, please kiss me again!”

Leaning toward her, he once again put his lips against hers, just resting them there, not moving. It was so sensual to feel soft lips against soft lips, feeling each other’s breath against their skin. She stuck her tongue out and licked his lips like a dog slurps, smiling as she did so.

“So, Mr. Parker, I would say this wasn’t a bad first date.”

“Does this mean there will be a second?” he asked.

“I’ll have to check my horoscope, but I’m thinking that would be a yes,” she smiled.

“I’ll hold you to that,” Sam said.

“You just do that. I’m counting on it!”

She gave him a small sexy smile and moved back over to the passenger side of the truck.
