Staring hungrily into her eyes he replied, “You must be looking through your beer goggles. I’ll catch you after the last set.” He left and returned to the stage.

Annie and her group all gathered on the dance floor and stayed there enjoying the musical mix of southern rock, along with contemporary and classic country. As the band sang their encore song, Annie’s head spun, and she knew she had passed several drinks too many. Signaling to her friends that she was ready to leave, they headed to the door, Gabe caught up with her.

“Hey, I’m devastated that you were going to leave without giving me your number,” he said.

“I left it with the bouncer,’ she said, “but hey, now that you are here, want to walk me to our limo?” She hung on tight to Gabe’s arm since her legs felt wobbly.

He glanced back at the band who were tearing down and said, “Sure.”

Annie’s friends were already piled into the limo when she and Gabe reached the vehicle, so they had a moment to themselves. She put her arms around Gabe’s neck. “You’re so hot,” she said, standing on her tip toes, she kissed him lightly on the lips as her hat toppled off her head onto the ground.

“Oh Annie, you make it so hard to say no” he said, returning the kiss he pressed his lips to hers. The minute their mouths met it was as if someone had put a match to the campfire kindling. She moved her hands to his chest, loving the feel of his hard, muscled body beneath her fingertips.Hard, lean, strong.

He pulled away then leaned his forehead against hers whispering in a ragged voice, “Talk about zero to sixty, wow Annie, you could pretty much get me to do about anything your sweet little heart desires right about now. Best you go easy on me. I’m too young to die of a broken heart,” his husky voice conveying his arousal. “I’d better get back in there, or my band will begin to wonder what happened to me.”

He brushed her hair back from her brow and kissed her forehead. His wandering lips found the curve between her neck and shoulder and he nipped lightly, her floral scented skin arousing him even further.

“I’ll call you,” he said, reluctantly releasing her.

“Promise?” she asked her eyes glazed with passion.

“Promise.” After brushing his nose lightly across hers, he picked up her hat from the ground and put it back on her head. He opened the limo door and she climbed in with her friends for their ride home.

“Lord have mercy, that man is fine,” Ava said, as they pulled away.

“I am officially jealous,” Evelyn said.

“I’m officially depressed,” Linda said.

“You guys, what am I going to do? I just got my life back together, the last thing I need is to complicate it with a man,” Annie moaned.

Madison said, “I’ll take him.”

“What about Craig?” Annie said.

“Craig who?” she responded, and they all laughed.

“Quit fretting, you haven’t even gone out with the guy yet,” Abigail said.

“It feels different, I don’t know how to explain it, but I’ve never felt quite like this with any other guy before,” she admitted reluctantly.

“Remember, there was alcohol involved so don’t sweat it yet,” Zoey said offering an explanation.

“Good point,” Annie said relieved that she had an excuse for her overwhelming reaction to seeing Gabe again.

“I’m going straight to bed when we get home,” Annie said.

“I’m going to read all day and hopefully finish my book,” Linda said.

“I’m up for kayaking if anyone wants to join me,” Zoey said.

“Me,” Abbey said.

“Me too,” echoed Madison.

“Me three,” Ava added. “Evelyn what about you?”

“R & R one hundred percent,” she said adamantly. “I volunteer to fix our dinner, those of us staying behind can work on that while you’re on the water.”
