I smiled faintly at the thought of Saul loving anyone more than himself. There were five months before Christmas, and there was plenty of time for a miracle. I tapped my pen on the notepad. I couldn't bear the thought of not spending Christmas without Katya. She made our home look cosy and magical with her decorating skills.

My heart stopped as I imagined our children running down the stairs to open their presents, just as Saul and I did when we were kids. This was the one thing that could cement our union. I couldn't get the thought out of my head: My beautiful Katya, glowing with happiness and preparing for our child. I snapped out of my daydream to angrily slap the notepad and pen down.

How could she want a child with me when she thought I would never be around to be a father?

She said as much in her email to Eliza.

God, I was beyond amazed at how these women managed to get their work done while sending such lengthy emails to one another.

Lovebombing her with expensive gifts and flowers was not the way forward. I needed to use everything that I’d learnt about my wife and prove to her that I was willing to change.

First, I needed to set up a rental car and spy on my wife.

Chapter 4

Katya

Since I had done nothing but mope around all day, Eliza’s solution was to take me clubbing and get me drunk. It brought back too many memories of some shady parties we attended in our Uni years. We had both broken up for the summer, which was reason enough to celebrate. We were too engrossed in one another to acknowledge the men who kept trying to hit on us, but it felt nice to be noticed.

“Oh my God. Is that Seth or Saul?” Eliza gasped, her eyes popping out, and she stared at the far corner of the club.

My head snapped towards the far seating area, and sure enough, it looked like Seth. His hair was too immaculate. He looked panicked and ducked away somewhere. I stood up to see where he went, but he was gone. I shook my head as I sat down.

Eliza burst out laughing and picked up her Pornstar Martini. We were much classier now as ladies.

“Man, that's so funny. He can't speak to you, but he is following you around. I might tell my brother that you're into him to see what happens.”

“Leave Grant alone,” I said, pausing to sip my drink. “The last thing I need is another man.”

“You're gonna miss the sex, though,” she said with a frown.

“Once upon a time, anniversary sex was guaranteed,” I snarled before I downed the remnants of my Pornstar.

I forced myself to push Seth out of my mind before I grabbed Eliza and dragged her onto the dance floor. Fuck being sad and depressed. Fuck it up the ass with a metal-studded dildo.

“Are we dead?” I croaked out to Eliza before poking her face with my finger.

She had drool dripping from her open mouth and onto the pillow.

“I think I’m dead,” I said as I tried to climb off the bed to puke.

I fell onto the rug and hit my head on something.

“Almost stung on my ass, and now I can't walk. What am I being punished for?” I wailed as I lay on the floor. “Oh, you kinky bitch,” I whispered as I peered under Eliza’s bed and saw thigh-high black patent boots.
