Mikey was the only one who came forward and grabbed Jay’s hand. “Let it go, man. Talk to her after you have calmed down. You are scaring her.”
Jay finally looked at me, his eyes full of anger and something I never wanted to see—hatred. But it was what I had hoped for.
His eyes softened the slightest bit, but his fury still remained. He exhaled a heavy breath, pushing off Mikey before he stormed outside.
Mikey and Lily rushed to my side. “Are you okay, E? You are shaking.”
I nodded. I didn’t even realize that my entire body was trembling.
“I have to change my shirt,” I muttered as I dashed inside the house. I grabbed a bottle of wine on the way to my room.
My eyes burned. I had gotten exactly what I wanted, but why did it hurt so bad?
CHAPTER 23
“This will look lovely on you, Evy.” Katy smiled as she held up a short gray dress.
I ignored her while I ran my hands through the rows and rows of designer dresses. We were in a massive private room at the Lawson boutique, us girls picking our dresses while the guys were getting measured for their tuxes.
This place was very modern and lux—it was an exclusive boutique, and you needed an appointment before they even let you in. They carried dresses from all designers, and it was very private, so most elites and celebrities preferred to shop here. The room they assigned to us was huge, with soft beige carpets and several small trail rooms to try on the dresses in privacy. A massive sofa sat in the center, with bright chandeliers hanging from the ceilings. They had already curated some of their best dresses for us and arranged them on the rack so we could pick whatever we liked.
Jay still hadn’t spoken a word to me. He had already picked out his tux and was now standing in a corner, glaring at the wall in front of him.
White was here. I recalled when she whispered under her breath to me earlier, “I hope you still remember what to do because your clock is ticking,” She snickered before sliding on her angel mask and walking away. I hated it. I hated it so much.
I clenched my jaw so hard to keep myself from mauling her smug face and the white dress she wore. I hoped karma ruined her life.
She was now helping Lily and Katy pick out their clothes. I rolled my eyes when she picked out a white dress for Lily, whose eyes widened as she stood there awkwardly. I knew White would always try to be on their good side after I was gone because they were very important to Jay. Unfortunately, Ihad to be disposed of for that to happen.
I took ten of the most revealing dresses off the rack and sauntered to the dressing room. I stayed in the dressing room for almost fifteen minutes, pretending to try them all on. When I only tried one sparkling blue dress, that was the least revealing of them all. The blue was almost the color of Jay’s eyes—the fabric was too soft, studded with tiny crystals that shimmered in the light. The skirt flared to my mid-thigh, and the sleeves were the prettiest angel-style cut. The sweetheart neckline had a thin strap like a halter that was tied around my neck. It was so beautiful. I loved it.
My eyes almost bugged out of my head when I saw the price of the dress. I checked the other dresses—they were similar, if not more. I sighed. I had to do this.
I changed back into my jeans and headed outside with all ten dresses in my hand.
“I want them all,” I said to the store assistant, who was helping us today. She looked at me in disbelief as I dropped them all into her hands and walked away.
I actually just wanted the blue dress.
“Evy, you can’t possibly need that many dresses.” Katy frowned at me.
I blew out a breath as I sank into the elaborate plush couch in the middle of the room. I took a glass of champagne they offered us earlier and crossed my legs.
“Are you telling me what I should and should not do, Katy?” I scoffed
Katy put her hands on her hips. “Are you going to start again? Argue about anything I say to you.”
White had a sly grin dancing on her face that no one seemed to notice. I hated that she was witnessing this but it was all her plan. I was so drunk at this point to even know what I was doing.
“Shut up, Katy,” I mumbled.
Katy’s eyes fumed with anger. Lan was immediately on her side. “Drop it, E,” he whispered.
I scoffed. “Ask your girlfriend to drop it.” I pointed to her. “She was the one who started.”
Lily stood there behind them, her brows furrowed with tension like she did not understand why I was doing all this.
“No, I won’t. Let me go, Lan. She is being a complete bitch, and she needs to know that.”
