Page 12 of From Me to You

I sighed as I picked out my outfit for school the next day. I literally had nothing good to wear, I pondered as I dug around my boxes, throwing my clothes everywhere in frustration.

I woke up early, around six. My first thought was that Jay was going to help me unpack today. Here, in my house. Just the two of us. Alone. I didn’t know whether to scream or jump on my bed like a little kid.

I looked forward to spending more time with him. But I was also nervous and scared—what if I blurted out the wrong thing? What if I tripped and fell and absolutely embarrassed myself?

I sighed again—that had already happened. There was no guarantee for that because I had two left feet.

Aunty M left around eight last night, not before she grilled me about Jay. She totally saw us holding hands last night and gushed about how Jay was a complete gentleman and how he would be perfect for me.

I assured her that nothing happened between us, and we were only friends, and I totally lied about how I didn’t like him that way. She was disappointed with my answer but finally left, getting late for her shift.

My mind drifted back to his kiss as my fingers once again traced the spot on my cheek. Did it mean that he liked me too?Or was it how friends said goodbye? Did friends kiss on the cheek?

I frowned as I dug out my phone and googled, ‘Do friends kiss on the cheek as goodbye?’ The search results said they most definitely did. It was pretty common among friends to kiss each other on the cheek. Ugh.

I somehow ended up on my bed, staring at the ceiling. My phone told me it was seven already. I needed to get ready for school. I had wasted an hour procrastinating like I always did.

I finally settled for my favorite yellow midi dress and paired it with a thick white cardigan because it was so cold outside. I took a quick shower and slapped some sunscreen and moisturizer on my face.

I hated wearing foundation or anything else on my skin. It made me itchy. I dabbed a warm pink lip blush over my lips. I brushed my long brown hair and parted it in the middle, just as I liked it. I combed some pomade on my brow hairs and swiped some mascara on my lashes, which made them look thick and curled, and brought out the amber in my dark brown eyes.

There, I looked a lot more presentable today.

I slipped on a pair of thick brown socks and combat boots and made my way downstairs to grab some coffee. I put on my earphones while I sipped on my coffee. It was the perfect way to start my morning.

I headed to school with Yiruma still crooning in my ears. I wondered if Jay was the singer in their band. His voice was so warm and soulful that I can only imagine how beautiful it would be when he sang. Assuming he was the singer.

The day went by uneventfully. I did not see Jay or the guys the whole day. I met the girls during lunch and they informed me that the guys had an early practice today.

I thought he had forgotten all about our plans until he texted me during lunch saying that he would be waiting for me afterschool near the gate. I blushed scarlet when I got his text because I had been waiting for him all day to confirm that he was still coming over. I was paranoid like that.

The girls obviously noticed my face and started teasing me, questioning what was going on between me and Jay. I denied and said that nothing was going on between us and that he was just helping me around. I even invited them to tag along, but they declined, shaking their heads with cheesy grins on their faces and saying they didn’t want to intrude.

God! So much for no one knowing about my crush.

Jay was already waiting for me by the school gate when I headed there. He looked so hot in his dark blue Levi’s and thick black sweater under his black leather jacket. His fingers were adorned with several silver rings, and a bunch of cord-like necklaces hung from his neck. He looked like a rock star. A very delectable, gorgeous-looking rock star. His eyes found mine as I made my way to him.

“Hey.” I waved shyly.

“Hey,” Jay whispered, closing in on me. He took my bag and slung it over his shoulders.

“You don’t need to take my bag. I am perfectly fine carrying it.”

“We don’t want you breaking any bones on the way. Come on, let’s go.” He smiled, holding out his hand for me. I stared at it for a second, not knowing what to do.

“Come on, we are going to be late.” He grabbed my hand and pulled me along. He linked his fingers with mine, his warmth seeped into my skin doing funny things to my body.

I guessed friends held hands now. Everyone looked and whispered at us as we walked away. I was sure they wondered what a guy like him was doing holding hands with a girl like me.

He held them the entire way home just like he did the night before.

Jay placed my bag on the couch as soon as we entered the house. He then turned to look at me with those gorgeous blue eyes. “Where do you want me to start?” He asked in a husky voice.

I swallowed— he was in my house. I shook out of it as I pried my gaze to anywhere but his eyes. “Umm, the boxes are upstairs in my room,” I said, pointing my fingers upward.

“Lead the way, sweetheart,” he said with a smile.

“It’s this way,” I murmured as I walked up the stairs. Did he just call me sweetheart? I was sure my face was red, considering how hot I felt. I turned to look at him, but his gaze was lower. Was he staring at my ass?
