“I can help you get his attention.”

“How?” I frowned.

“Like this.” Matt brought his arms around me. “Don’t worry, I am not interested in you like that. You are not my type.”

“Gee, thanks.” I rolled my eyes, smiling at him.

Matt was nice, but I only saw him as a friend. He was built like a football player, but he was a total teddy bear. He reminded me of Katy, with his soft eyes and warm smile—considering he was her twin, it made sense.

Suddenly, a warm rough hand grabbed me and pulled me up to my feet.

“What are you doing?” I asked to the back of a very familiar boy who made me lose my mind and was currently dragging me away from everyone.

But he didn’t answer. We passed the bonfire and looked like we were heading toward the fields.

“Hey, I am asking you. Where are we even going?” His grip tightened around my hand but he didn’t stop.

I tried to pull my hands away, but he was too strong. I peered around—we had almost walked to the edge of the lake.

“Jay!” I screamed. He suddenly stopped and pulled me toward him.

“What are you doing?” I whispered, shivering. It was so cold near the water. The gentle breeze that danced through the airdefinitely did not help. No one was around us, just the dark waters of the lake mirroring the bright full moon.

“Are you trying to kill me?” he asked in a raspy voice.

I took a step back, confused.

Jay closed in and I stumbled backward, my back colliding against a tree. He closed in again, pressing his palms on the tree beside my head, and leaned in. I had nowhere to escape now.

“Jay,” I whispered. My heart pounded so fast. His face was so close to mine. His blue eyes shone darker in the moonlight. His delicious warmth enwrapped me—it no longer felt cold.

“Do you know how beautiful you are? Do you know how crazy you make me feel? Do you know what you have done to me?” He buried his face on my neck nuzzling me, leaving behind soft kisses.

“You smell like the melodies to all my songs.”

I moaned, gasping for breath, as I reached up and ran my fingers through his silky waves.

“Can I kiss you?” he asked me, his eyes filled with want that matched mine.

I looked into his cobalt blue eyes as I nodded.

Jay brought his hands to my cheeks, pulling me closer. He didn’t wait as he swooped in. His lips met mine, our teeth clashing. He sucked my bottom lip, drawing his tongue into my mouth. He tilted his head like he couldn’t get enough of me. It got more intense, and our tongues danced at a hurried pace. He tasted like sin, a sin I would commit over and over again. It was like being doused in a golden flame—so warm, so electric, so perfect. My toes curled, and I felt him everywhere, down to my bones. I tightened my arms around his neck, lifting onto my tiptoes as I kissed him. I loved it.

He suddenly pulled back from my lips. He didn’t let me go as he peppered kisses all over my face.

“That was my first kiss,” I mumbled as I brought a finger to my swollen lips.

He held my gaze as he leaned in and placed a kiss on my forehead.

“Come on, I will take you home. It’s getting late,” he said, holding my hand as we started walking toward the clearing.

In the midst of it all, I totally forgot I needed to be home before twelve, like Cinderella or something. I bent down to dig my phone out of the brown cowboy boots that I wore. It had a small pocket on the inside, perfect for my tiny phone, and it was also perfect for when I was wearing dresses. My phone told me it was around 11:24, so I still had time before I had to get home.

“Did you just take your phone out of your boots?” Jay asked with a bewildered look on his face.

“Yeah, my dress doesn’t have pockets.” I shivered, feeling cold again.

“Yeah, I can see that.” I felt him place something warm on my shoulders. I turned as he tightened his jacket around me. I sank into the delicious warmth as I pulled it closer, inhaling the scent. It smelled like him. He led me to a cherry-red Chevy 4X4 truck that had the band logo on the side. He opened the door to the passenger side and helped me in.
