“They didn’t fuck us up, Mikey. We don’t know anything for sure. Plus, it’s only a week.” Matt shrugged like it wasn’t a big deal, but his eyes told a different story.
“The label? What did they do? Weren’t you guys going to record the first single today?” Katy asked with her hands on her hips.
“Well, they told us they are pushing the recording to a later date, probably for a week or so. They have decided to put Dilemma’s new single out sooner than anticipated. So, we have to wait a bit longer,” Lan said.
I felt it in my bones—she did this.
Dilemma was another up-and-coming band, but they weren’t as big as The Four Foxes. The guys have garnered a lot of fans over the past few months—hell, even Brown-eyed Girl was so close to charting on the Hot 100. So White deliberately made this move.
“Dilemma? Seriously! I can’t believe them. Even if they are putting out a single, it has nothing to do with us recording our album. Let me call Cece.” Katy fumed with anger.
“Cece did her best, but the higher-ups were adamant. There is nothing we can do now except wait.” Matt sighed.
Lan nodded along with him.
It was a bit funny to think that they thought White actually helped them when she was the one who was doing this to them.
Jay still hasn’t said a word.
“Hey, you okay?” I whispered just for him to hear.
Jay took my hand in his and started playing with my fingers. It told me he was actually a nervous mess on the inside even though he looked calm and cool.
“Yeah, it just sucks that we have to wait longer.” He sighed. “I know some bands wait for years to even get a chance, but I thought we were finally so close. It’s just frustrating.”
“Don’t worry, I am sure you guys will start recording in no time.” I smiled through my lie. I knew nothing was going to change unless White changed her mind. I couldn’t believe that a rich, spoiled girl is ruining actual talent and hard work.
“Yo, guys. I heard what happened, man. It sucks. The label is fucked up sometimes,” Will said as he walked in with the rest of the Crash Riders.
“Yeah, I am still going to call Cece. I need to know what is going on,” Katy muttered to no one as she left the room.
I sighed. This was going to be a long night.
Soon, drinks and other things started flowing through the room. About ten people, mostly girls, appeared out of nowhere and started drinking and dancing with everyone.
Jay switched off into his quiet mood but was still playing with my fingers. Everyone looked a bit sad and was drinking to forget it all.
My heart was heavy with worry—I didn’t know what to do if White continued with this. Leaving Jay wasn’t an option. I don’t know how to survive without him—being without him even for two months was heartbreaking, so leaving him forever would just about kill me.
“Let’s go,” I whispered to Jay. I have had enough of this party. The smoke clouding the room made my throat burn.
We settled onto our bed, and he held me tight while I listened to his heartbeat. We weren’t really in the mood for sex.
“Everything will be okay, Jay,” I told him.
“I hope so, sweetheart.” He gave me a small smile.
I took it as a hopeful sign. He was going to be okay, which I repeated in my head over and over again that night to make myself feel a bit better as I drifted off.
I woke up with a start. My hair was all over my face, and the bedsheets were tangled up at my feet. Jay wasn’t beside me, which was unusual because he was always there when I woke up.
My first thought was that something was wrong as I pulled up my phone to call him.
I stopped when I saw I already had a text from him.
Jay- I had to go to the studio, sweetheart. They called in for an early meeting. I will see you at home.
I sighed. It had been one week since the recording incident happened. The guys were sad for a bit but soon returned to their normal selves, hopeful they would start recording soon.
