Elec’s jaw flexed repeatedly. “If you speak one more time, I will have Allison hold you to that chair until we’re done.”
Silence.
Time.
“Good girl. You’re doing great. Watch my finger, Ally. Drop the walls. It is only me and you in this moment.Feel.Come back to me.” He paused as I felt my body come to life with emotions. “We’re going to get to know each other better than ever. You see, I’ve been looking into you. I know everything about your life. Most importantly, your dreams. Your passions. I know the memories that remain, and we’re going to talk about those now. Let’s start at the beginning.”
I nodded, eagerly.
“Of course, Main Master.”
“Call me Elec. We’re more than titles right now. Would you like to be my friend?”
“Really? I’d love nothing more.”
The bubbliness left me shaking. I was…here. But I was still me. Just clearer. Happier. He was still my Main Master. I would still die for him.
“You were a little over twenty-one when you joined the police force. Do you remember that?”
I wanted to giggle. Not that I would have even in my happiest moment, but wasn’t this one of them?
“Best day of my life, Sir. Elec,” I quickly corrected.
“You grew up as a gymnast…not that you excelled in it, but you gave it your all. Would you say that’s correct?
I blinked in the memories, still smiling.
“I tried. It was fun.”
“It made learning to fight here at the Garden’s easier. Would you agree? Your chart says you excelled in every specialty we taught. You put your heart into training.”
“Being of service makes me happy.”
“And that makesmehappy.”
We both smiled.
“When examining your personality traits, I was very pleased with your scores. High in conscientiousness without being out of range. Agreeableness was fair, but perfectly within the acceptable levels. You were an ideal candidate, and I’m so happy how you turned out. You’re golden, Ally.A true treasure. May I ask you a few questions? As friends?”
“You can ask me anything.”
Warmth enveloped my hands again, pulling them to rest where our knees joined.
“Would you say you’re an honest person, Allison?”
“As honest as I can be. I’d never lie to you, Main Master. Everything I do is for you.”
His fingers gave the smallest squeeze and my heart swelled.
“Would you protect me?”
“To the death.”
“Lie for me?”
“With every breath.”
He smiled.
