“Kill for me?”
“If that’s what you wanted.”
He nodded, glancing down and breaking eye contact. It had me blinking as I scanned his face. When his stare lifted to mine, I was ready.
“Allison, would you do the same for your Master?”
The need to look over to Braddock tugged at my mind. I did feel…something for him. There was…something. “So long as it didn’t interfere with my loyalty of you. I know I am to protect him. I am to die for him. Kill, if it’s within my guidelines. Loyal, yes. But you supersede him over everyone.”
Seconds more we smiled at each other. The moment we shared wasn’t missed by the woman tapping her foot in the distance.
“I want you to think back to the knocking you heard earlier. What is the first thing you remember after hearing it?”
I blinked and memories had me jolting in my chair.
“It’s okay. Let the recollection come through.”
“My…My Master motioned me to the door.”
“And who was there?”
For the first time, my face went to turn. Elec was quick to put his hand up and stop me. As I stared into blue, all I could hear was the yells.
“Mistress Two. It was Melissa LaRoe.”
“Yeah. So what.”Her voice echoed from the walls.“Of course it was me. You can see that on surveillance. I never said I wasn’t there. Braddock missed his appointment.”
“Did you open the door, Ally?”
My head shook. “No. My Master and I had already devised a plan on what to say if she showed up.”
“And what was that?”
“I told her my Master was not taking visitors. That he’d continue his appointments with you. That if she had any questions, she could reach out to you.”
“And how did she take that?”
“She got very angry. She said if my Master wanted a new doctor, he had to tell her to her face.”
“Which he did,” Melissa cut in. “Very rudely, if I do say so. Slamming the door in my face after firing me.The nerve.”
One of Elec’s eyebrows rose but he kept his attention on me.
“What happened next?”
“She said his name.”
“His name?”
I swallowed hard, studying my Master’s frozen body in my mind’s eye.
“First, she just yelled ‘Braddock Amell’. He…reacted to that. It was when she said his full name, ‘Braddock Amell Pierce’…he changed. He was like a...zombie. A…killer.”
“That’s a lie! Check the footage in his apartment.”
“The mysteriously missing footage? How ironic. Again.”
Heels stomped our way, but the Main Master didn’t break our connection.
