Logan is not fucking dying. She is a warrior.

I dare to look at her again even though I know it’s going to hurt.

Quietly, I say, "I’m so sorry, Angel. I love you so fucking much. You have to be strong. We were meant to be together forever. Don’t give him that power to take you out of this world. I promise you will never know this pain again. Take as much time as you need but you have to come back to me. You are my light, and I don’t want to live in the darkness anymore.”

Standing up, I lean over and gently place a kiss to her soft lips. "I love you, Angel. Be your own light and don’t let that asshole win.”

Chapter Thirty-Six

Logan

Mybodyfeelsheavy, and I feel like I got hit by a bus.

Slowly I open my eyes, the fluorescent lights blinding me.

Shit. My head really fucking hurts.

"Welcome back, pretty girl.” His deep voice sounds from beside me.

Wait. I’m not dead? Surely this has to be a dream. There’s no way this is real.

Turning my head, I wince. Grayson stands and sits on the edge of the bed. He picks up my hand and places it in his lap, threading his fingers through mine.

"Try not to move too much.”

I’m so confused.

I blink a few times and my handsome caveman is still there.

Using his freaky mind powers, Grayson picks up on my confusion and says, "Angel. You’re not dreaming. You’re alive.”

Holy shit. This is real.

My eyes are blurry but from what I can make out, he looks exhausted. His black shirt is wrinkled. A backwards baseball cap hides what I’m ninety-nine percent sure is a crazy mess of hair.

I need to see his face clearly to fully bring me back to reality. Blindly reaching over to the table on the side of the bed, I try and find my glasses.

Pain shoots up my side and it takes my breath away.

"Angel. What did I just say?” Grayson scolds me and places my glasses on my face.

Yup. This is real. My sassy ass caveman just confirmed it.

Blinking a few times to clear the sleep from my eyes, I get a good look at him. My assumption was right. Dark circles are clear under his beautiful blues. He looks like he hasn’t slept in days.

My heart breaks, knowing my teddy bear is hurting, and I hate that I’m the reason.

I already know what he is thinking. He blames himself for not being there. But it's not his fault. I need to make sure he knows that so that he can stop internally beating himself up.

My mouth feels like I swallowed a million cotton balls. I attempt to clear my throat but even swallowing hurts. Of course, Grayson senses my frustration and holds up a glass of water with a straw for me to drink.

The cool water soothes my aching throat and I pull back.

"Better?” he asks while setting the cup back on the table and returning his hand to mine.

"Yeah. Thank you.” My voice sounds weak and no matter how much I hate to admit it, I feel just as bad as my voice sounds.

Grayson leans forward and drops his forehead to mine. "Fuck, Angel. You scared me. I thought I was going to lose you.”
