"Of course. I’m going to get the doctor to come in and give you the rundown. I’ll be right back with those meds.”

"Thank you,” Grayson says and turns his attention to me.

Tilting my head back against the pillow, I sigh.

"What can I do?” he asks.

"Take me home. I want to sleep in our bed with our fluff ball.”

"I will as soon as I can, Angel.”

I don’t know if I’m ready to know but I need to. "So did, umm…” I start to ask just as the doctor comes in with Jay.

He explains that I have two broken ribs and some bruising, which I already knew from the amount of pain I was in. My hand isn’t broken, just severely bruised. My back looks good, and I’m shocked nothing is broken with how hard I hit the ground.

"What concerned us the most was your head. You were out for two days to let your brain heal. There was some minor swelling but that went down within the first day. You have a pretty severe concussion, but I’d say you are a very lucky girl, Ms. Sawyer.”

He's right. I am lucky. If I wouldn’t have known to protect my head as best as I could, this would have been a completely different scenario.

"So, when can I go home?”

I really want to get out of here. I need to be in my safe space with my man and little buddy.

The doctor laughs and shakes his head. "You nurses are always the most eager to leave, but I would like to keep you for a few days. Just for observation.”

Sighing, I slump against my pillow. Looking down at my hand, I mess with the tape that covers the IV in my hand.

The doctor sighs. "Fine, let’s make a deal. It’s still early in the day, if you rest and don’t have any issues for the rest of the day, you can go home in the morning.”

My head pops up and I wince. He shakes his head and gives me a stern look before continuing, "But you can’t lift anything or do any sort of strenuous activities for a while. Your body is trying to recover, and I hear from my colleagues you love running up mountains and riding motorcycles outside of work. None of that and I will be telling them to put you on light duty when you come back. I know you nurses don’t have a stop button, but you need to. The last thing I want is to see you back here in two days after you are discharged for repeat scans. Got it?”

I will do whatever he wants as long as he lets me go home.

Holding out his hand to Grayson, the doctor says, "Don’t let her do anything she’s not supposed to. My wife is a nurse and I could barely get her to sit down when she’s had pneumonia but stay strong, even if she says she’s fine.”

Grayson returns the gesture. "I’ve got her,” he says, sounding growly, completely missing the doctor’s innocent joke.

Hmm. My cocky caveman is back. I love it.

The doctor shakes his head, smiling, and walks out. Jay steps up to my side and hands me pills then my water.

"Here ya go. I’ll leave you alone as much as I can. If you want, visitors are allowed until five but if you want Doc to agree to let you go, I’d have everyone wait until you got home.”

She’s probably right. He seemed nice but judging by the warnings and explicit relaxation instructions he gave, I don’t want to give him any reason to say no.

"Thanks, Jay.”

With that she walks out, and I focus back on Grayson.

"So…” I say picking at the tape on my hand again.

He sighs. "Are you sure you wanna know this now? You should rest.”

I look down at my hands. "I just want to know if you got him.”

Grayson tilts my head to look at him. "We got him. Wes hasn’t left him alone since they brought him to The Playhouse.”

Relief floods me. I know Wes won’t let him go and is probably giving Mike a run for his money.
