Mike's eyes darken. "You mean Baby Doll? Oh, she’s alive. Or she was the last time I saw her. And she owes you a big thank you. The second you revealed where you'd been hiding all this time, your little friend was useless to me. ” He pauses and sends me a wink. "But we did have some fun.”
My mind is spinning. That means Allie hasn’t been having a hard time at work, she has been getting tortured for months and it’s all my fault.
I calm myself enough so that I can speak to him without screaming. "What did you do to her?”
He chuckles. “Princess watch yourself. You don’t want to make me mad, do you? But I think you could learn a few things from your friend so I’ll tell you. We played the games you used to love so much. But she was much more obedient than you were. She did a good job at protecting you but she could only do so much. I can’t say that I like that you marked my property with ink, but you gave a little too much away when you sent that photo to Baby Doll.”
Ink? What the hell is this psycho talking about?
I’m wracking my brain, trying to figure it out, when it hits me. I sent Allie a photo of my mountain tattoo. There must have been something in the background that gave away my location. This just confirms that Allie was acting weird during that phone call and it was because Mike was there.
How can I be so fucking stupid?
Anger coats my vision and I charge forward and stab the knife as hard as I can into his stomach. Blood spills from the open wound and I raise my arm back to do it again, but someone stops me.
I look over my shoulder and see Grayson holding my arm back. My entire body shakes.
I want to kill him. I need to kill him.
Grayson pulls me back to his chest and brushes a hair off my face. When he speaks, it's loud enough so only Wes and I can hear. "Angel. I know you want to kill him, but we need to get answers out of him first, okay?”
I nod and try to control my frantic breathing. Wes launches into question after question trying to get as much as he can, but Mike is being vague about Allie’s potential whereabouts.
The only good news is that he says he left her alive, but that means she could be anywhere. My best friend is now out there scared and hiding, just like I was for so many years. Except in this case, it's worse because she’s truly alone.
I look to Landon, who is taking in everything. Our eyes lock and I silently plead for him to find her. He knows exactly what I’m thinking and mouths. "I’ll find her.”
Noah steps up to Mike. "Listen here, you fuckwad. You’re not getting out of here alive so you might as well tell us where she is.”
"Ha! That was cute, blondie. But since you asked nicely…” He sends a devious glance my way. "Last I saw her, she was where Logan’s mom took her last breath.”
The room goes silent and I break out of Grayson’s hold and step closer.
"What did you just say about my mother?” I ask, my voice full of anger and determination.
"Princess. You are lucky you are pretty because you’re stupid as hell. Just like your mother.”
Running around to his back, with the flick of my wrist, I slice the knife across his shoulder blade. Mike howls in pain as I return to his front.
I’ll give it to the guy. He’s bleeding in multiple places and hasn’t passed out yet.
"What did you do to her, Mike?” I ask.
Mike looks right into my eyes and flashes me an evil yellow smile. "I tossed her around and when she flipped into robot mode, I slit her wrist and left her there for you to find. I went out to get you a present to celebrate the day you became mine, but you were selfish and left me. I found Baby Doll and thought she was another dead end because she’s just as stubborn as you. I planned for you and your mom to go out the same way when I heard you had a boyfriend. You belong to me, Princess, and no other man will touch you. Baby Doll got lucky because I had to leave to get to you in time to send you out of this world the same day I did your mom, but your dumbass redhead friend ruined it.”
It feels like all the air is sucked out of the room. My chest tightens and my head feels like it’s spinning.
Arms wrap around me. "No. Don’t. Don’t give him the satisfaction of seeing you break down. That’s what he wants. Stay strong, Angel. Finish this. For you, your mom, for Allie and her family." Grayson’s words help and my breathing slows.
You can do this, Logan. Finish him and then you can break down. Do this for Allie.
Stepping up to Mike, I keep my voice firm. "You will never hurt an innocent person ever again. You are a monster and deserve to rot in hell with the rest of the demons like you. I let you take so much from me over the years but that’s all over now. Everything you have done has taught me to be who I am today. I know you thought by killing my mother, I would just fall into your trap but you’ve got it all wrong. While you were busy beating the shit out of us, I was learning how to stand up for myself. It may have taken a while but there's no time like the present to rewrite the past.”
Before he can respond, I walk over to the table and grab the step stool.
I don’t say anything and place the stool right in front of Mike.
"Let’s play a game, Mike. I’ll go first.”
