I slash a long deep cut along both of his arms and watch the blood pour out. His face pales and life slowly starts to drain out of his eyes.
Stepping down, I drop the bloody knife to the ground. Then I turn around and walk toward the door and Grayson runs ahead to open it. I search his eyes for the will to look over my shoulder one last time. Because of him, I have the confidence to live outside of the fear.
I take a deep breath, find Mike’s eyes, and say, “I win.”
I turn around and walk calmly out the door. As soon as it shuts, I collapse into Grayson’s arms and pass out.
Chapter Thirty-Nine
Grayson
"Angel,please,”Ibeg.
Logan covers her face up with the blankets. Oliver lays on top of her and she has somehow convinced Willow to hide under there with her.
My girl has been going through it since that day in The Playhouse. It didn’t go as planned. I knew it was going to be hard, but I didn’t expect it to go as bad as it did.
Mike got what he fucking deserved and I’m proud of Logan for having enough left in her tired body to do it herself. It was like a switch was flipped and all the anger she had been holding in came out. I think everyone was shocked that she fucking killed him, but I know that’s not what is hurting her the most right now.
Logan has completely shut down. For the first few days, she tried to pretend it wasn’t affecting her, then Landon called and said the house where Logan grew up was sold to a family years ago. So, there was no possible way that Allie was there.
When Landon said he was coming back to do more research and work, Logan cried herself to sleep. She says Allie is strong, so I have high hopes that she is safe wherever she is. But not knowing is destroying her.
Ever since I haven’t been able to get her out of bed. Her body has almost healed, besides a few migraines, but I think those are more from her crying for hours.
Today she is getting her ass out of this bed. I know she is hurting but I hope today will pull her out of the darkness.
When I pull the covers off, her arms fold over her face. Willow gets up and gives me kisses, then lays on top of Logan. Oliver moves above her head and looks at me like he’s going to kill me in my sleep.
These damn animals wouldn’t think twice if they had to pick between me or Logan.
"Come on, Angel. I want to show you something,” I beg while running my hand up and down her leg.
Logan groans and lifts her arms off her face.
"Fine,” she groans
I tap her leg. "That’s the spirit. Get dressed, we're taking the bike.”
"Holy fucking shit, Grayson, are you trying to kill me? I love our spot but I also love being able to breathe,” Logan grumbles while walking ahead of me on the path.
"Stop complaining, you know you will be happy once you get there.”
Logan turns to look at me, pointing her finger in my face. "I don’t want to hear a peep out of you when I make you carry me back.” She turns back and stomps up the trail.
I catch up to her and smack her ass. "Yes, ma'am.”
We walk in silence the rest of the way to the waterfall. I don’t mind it. I need this time to get my shit together.
I don’t know why I’m so fucking nervous. Logan loves me and I know we are going to spend the rest of our lives together.
We reach the top of the incline and look down at the waterfall below. I watch her take in the scenery and she is so consumed by it that she doesn't notice me taking out my phone to take a picture.
I give her a moment to take it all in like it’s the first time she’s seeing it.
Besides bringing her here to make her mine forever, I knew this would be a good place to clear her head. A few moments later, she turns to me and smiles.
I lean in and kiss her gently on the forehead. She looks up at me and her green eyes are so damn beautiful in this light. Logan takes my hand in hers and we walk down the trail to the rocks on the water. She releases her hold on my hand and wraps her arms around my waist. Her head rests on my chest and we both look out at the clear water.
