Page 137 of Accepting Fate
I rest my chin atop her head and break the silence. "Hey, Angel?”
"Hmm,” she says, still looking out at the water.
"Have you ever wondered why I call you Angel?”
That catches her attention and she looks up at me. Her brows pull together, and she gives me a questioning look, "No. I mean kind of. I thought it was just a nickname like when I call you Bear because you’re a giant teddy bear. But I've never thought there was a special meaning behind it. Why...?”
I take a deep breath, so I don’t burst into tears and ruin the moment I’ve practiced so many times. "Well, Angel, it’s simple. The day I first saw you, you were leaning against a desk with a lollipop in your mouth. For a second, I forgot I was holding Lily and then you ran up to me and brought me back to reality. Before I walked into that ER, I begged for something to give her a second chance and there you were.
"You help people in their lowest moments every day and still have enough to give me after a bad mission.” I pause and swipe the tear before it falls from my eye. “You saved me. You took me out of such a dark place and showed me there is light in the world full of darkness that I live in. I know you say I saved you and maybe that’s true and we saved each other. I’ve watched you go from being scared but somehow fearless to this strong, confident, and beautiful woman.
"My dad says that when you find your light, it’s like everything has been dark until you find that one person. I didn’t ever think I would find someone that would accept me for me, and you did. And I know things are crazy right now and finding Allie is a priority, but I need you to hold onto that fierce strength you have inside of you. I know with you by my side we can keep all the demons at bay and fucking fight for the ones that can't. You are my life, my partner, my everything. And most importantly you are my light, Angel.”
Taking the ring out of my pocket, I step back and get to one knee.
Logan looks down at me, smiling and crying.
Taking a deep breath, I get to the important part. "Logan Blake Sawyer, will you marry me?”
She launches herself at me and I have to fall to my ass, so we don’t go tumbling into the water.
Logan’s hands go to both sides of my face. "Are you serious?”
Taking her left hand off my face, I slide the ring on her finger. Logan’s eyes go wide, and tears flow freely down her face.
"I love you, Mrs. Hayes,” I say while pressing a kiss to her finger.
Logan laughs and shakes her head. "I didn’t even say yes yet! You can’t call me that.”
"Too fucking bad. You’re mine.”
She rolls her eyes. "God, you’re such a caveman.”
I laugh at that. "Get used to it, Angel. Now, say yes so we can get in the water.”
Logan winds her arms around my neck and presses her lips against mine. "Yes.”
I jump up with her in my arms and kiss her with everything I have.
The kiss turns hungry, and I stop it before it goes too far. I set her down on her feet, slip the ring off her finger, and then zip it up in the inside pocket of the backpack.
"Hey,why did you take it?” Logan yells.
"Because of this.”
Dropping the bag to the ground, I pick her up and jump into the water.
Logan
Holy fucking shit, I’m engaged!
We break the surface and Grayson flashes me a mischievous look. He starts swimming backwards and I duck under the water, just as his first splash is about to hit me.
When I resurface, I don’t even splash back because I need to be in his arms.
Grayson catches on and swims over to me, pulling me into his hold. Winding my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck, I kiss him.
I have been so sick with guilt since I found out about Allie that I really didn’t want to come here today but I’m so happy I did.
