Reaching over, I grab her hand and kiss her ring finger.
Yeah, I know I’m obsessed with her ring. She is mine and I love seeing a big sparkling reminder of it every time I look at her.
“Well, it’s a good thing we have the rest of forever to explore the world together. This is just the beginning, pretty girl.”
Logan groans. “Ugh. I love you but damn you are such a sappy caveman sometimes.” She tries to hide her laugh but fails.
Threading our fingers together, I rest them on her knee and glance at her quickly. “I love you more. Now we have a few hours before we get to—“ I stop myself before revealing our location and I can see Logan getting excited about my almost slip up. “The surprise. It’s the perfect amount of time to finish up the next book in the series we started.”
Logan shakes her head. She scrolls her kindle for a minute and finds the book. The next few hours are filled with Logan’s beautiful voice filling the truck as we make our way to our destination.
Chapter Four
Logan
“Wakeupprettygirl.”
Grayson’s gentle voice brings me out of my peaceful nap.
The caveman wasn’t kidding, this place was a drive. After finishing the second half of the teacher and hot tattooed bar owner rom-com, I dozed off.
A kiss is placed on my forehead and my eyes flutter open to see my handsome man wearing a big smile. It’s small moments like this that reminds me how much I love him.
He brushes his thumb against my cheek and I melt under his touch. “Are we in heaven?”
Grayson gives me a pointed look and we both burst out laughing.
“Who’s the cheesy one now, Angel?” He pauses to give my knee a gentle squeeze before continuing. “You ready to see your first surprise?”
I nod and start looking out the window when Grayson stops me.
“Close your eyes and don’t move.”
“Ooo kinky. I like it.” I watch his midnight blues turn a shade of gray before closing my eyes. I hear the truck door open and hear him mutter something under his breath.
Moments later, my door opens, and the cold December air instantly turns my body into an icicle. It’s much colder here than it is in Cliff Haven.
I feel Grayson reach over, unbuckle my seat belt, and turn me to face him. One by one he places my boots back on my feet and drapes a coat over my shoulders. Before lifting me out of the truck, he places a gentle kiss on my lips then on my ring.
We walk a few feet before he places me on the ground and turns me to face away from him.
Grayson wraps his arms around my middle and rests his chin on my shoulder. “Alright. Open your eyes, Angel.”
I open and am in shock at what sits in front of me.
It’s like the world has been painted in a crisp white blanket of snow. The sun reflects off the frozen lake sitting across a field of fluffy snow. The lake is surrounded by trees and a few homes sit on the opposite shore.
I turn my attention and shock hits me again. A beautiful two-story cabin home stands tall next to us. The top floor opens up to a covered balcony. I can already tell that the view of the lake is going to be breathtaking up there.
Grayson hugs me tighter. I spin around and rise to my toes, wrapping my arms around his neck. “What magical wonderland did we just fall into?”
Grayson chuckles. “Welcome to Willow Lake, Angel. Do you like it?”
Tears threaten to fall at the name of this magical place. Besides the idea of leaving Cliff Haven in the midst of everything going on with my best friend, having to leave behind Willow was almost just as hard. I don’t know if it was a coincidence or if Grayson intentionally did it, but either way, I can feel some of my anxiety slipping away.
“Thank you, Bear,” I say as my lips find his. We stand there lost in the slow and gently kiss until a breeze reminds us how cold it is out here.
“Damn Angel. You haven’t seen the inside yet or what I have planned for you this week. But if that’s the thanks I get every time, then I may have to add a few more surprises.”
