“Oh my god!” Cora screams. “He gave you the ring!”

“Yes, he did, he proposed!” I say, excited all over again. We rush to each other as I shove my hand in her face.

She takes it, happily staring at the ring. “It looks even more beautiful on you.”

“Wait, you’ve seen it?” I question, pulling my hand away.

“Well, yes, I helped him. We wanted it to be perfect, to be Alex worthy.”

I smile, pulling her in for a hug. “It’s perfect, and to know my two favorite people picked it together means everything.”

“Umm, hello!” Levi says. “What about me?”

Kohen responds, “Come on, man, let’s go to the game room.”

“That’s cold.” He shoots a glare at me playfully. I stick him the finger and he pretends to catch it, kiss it, and throw it back at me. If that doesn’t sum up our friendship since day one, then I don’t know what does.

“Are you happy, Alex?” she asks.

“Yes, Cora. It doesn’t even feel real, it feels like a dream, a dream I never thought I could have or deserve.”

“Well, you do,” she says, rubbing my arm absentmindedly.

“I do, I know that now,” I say, looking around. “I can’t believe this is going to be my home. It is my home. Did you see my closet?”

“Yep. I helped with that too!”

“Y’all really are besties,” I tease.

“We are, Kohen is the best!” she says, nothing but love for him in her eyes, the same love I have for Levi. She deserves that, too.

“Okay, enough beating around the bush. Did y’all have sex?”

Her face falls to her hands, a giddy smile on her glowing face.

“You did! You little slut!” I laugh.

“I did! I did! And, oh my god, Alex. It was amazing. The best sex I’ve ever had. He was…”

“Nope, stop there. Gross! He’s like a brother to me. I don’t want to hear it. That’s where it ends. At least now I know. So are y’all like together?” I ask, curious.

“We didn’t get there, but I don’t think so. Besides, I’m pregnant. I don’t expect him to want to settle down or anything. It was just a fit of passion. Yeah, that’s it. A one-time occurrence from all the emotions surging through us all after last night.”

“Mhmm, sure,” I say.

“I’m serious, Alex.”

I put my hands up in surrender. “Okay, I got it. One time thing.” I zip my lips and throw away the key. “Won’t say anything else about it.”

“Thank you,” she says, standing up and straightening out her sundress. One thing you gotta love about Texas weather is that it was cold as hell last night but bright, sunny, and ninety degrees today.

“Come on, baby maker. Let’s go join the guys in the game room.”

“Let’s,” she says, nodding.
