As he reappeared, I heard gunshots and turned my head, watching the caravan of BLVD vehicles scatter off the road into the desert landscape and men jumping out to take cover. Shit, I was pretty sure they’d just killed the driver of the front car. I could hear yelling and screaming through the shots.
“You fucking BASTARD!” I growled at Mack.
He had led his brothers in arms to slaughter, and he was enjoying it. He was no better than the sick, twisted Suns we had been fighting against for years. He started laughing.
Rosalie started to cry out against her gag, and Mack turned his attention to her.
“Take her gag out. If the little whore wants to say something, then let’s hear it.” He gripped one of my shoulders and leaned into my ear as the Suns’ sergeant started to remove her gag.“Maybe after she’s done, I’ll give her something else to gag on. Shove my cock down her throat and see what all the fucking fuss is about.”
I had my entire body ready to turn and deck him in the face.
“Kordell! I’m s-sorry! This is all my f-fault!”
Her stuttered cries cut me to the core. Fuck.
“Nah, mama, you did nothing wrong.” I tried to sound calm for her, but I turned my attention back to Mack. My glare caused him to pause for a moment before he replaced his look of surprise with a sneer.
“Don’t act like you weren’t ready for them to die for your own personal shit, Enforcer! You literally asked them to come and prepare to die for your little bitch! This wasn’t clubhouse business; it was your business. You and I aren’t so different.”
He kicked the back of my knees, and I fell forward, catching myself. I had to do something before my hands and legs were tied. Had to react, but what?!
I tilted my face back to look at her as I heard her sob again. Then, I figured out exactly what I was going to do. The hell if I was going to be all right or not.
I was going to give her a chance to run.
CHAPTER 27
KORDELL
I hadto move faster than I’d ever moved before to get this to work. It was three versus one, the element of surprise was the only way I had a chance. That was if none of the men currently involved with the firefight didn’t turn around to jump in as well. But I brought my elbow back as hard as I could into Mack’s crotch. I felt them crush against his leg, and he screamed in pain, his gun jerking away as he staggered back. I couldn’t wait to hear if he fell. I lunged at the legs of the sergeant. I caught both his and Rosalie’s legs, and we all fell together.
A gunshot rang out, and I stilled for a moment. I heard a man scream, and he must have fired when my eyes were closed. But to my fucking luck, he’d hit the guy with the rope because his body dropped, and after a twitch, he was dead.
I shoved Rosalie out of my way as I started to grapple with the sergeant.
“RUN!” I shouted at her.
She started to try to get to her feet, but I saw how hard that was for her with the way she was tied. But I couldn’t get distracted by her anymore. I was locked in a fight to the death with this man, both of our hands gripped around his pistol, struggling to take it from each other.
I could hear Mack groaning in the background. Good. That must mean I’d hit him really good. Rosalie needed every second she could get. I shoved my hand up higher. He might have more mass than me, but I had a height advantage. His arm stretched as he kicked hard and connected with my side. We rolled, and now he was on top, pinning me down under him. Our legs grappled. He knew what I was going to aim for if I could get my leg lined up properly, and he was doing everything he could to prevent that.
Then, I saw a flash, and he was hit hard with something. He rolled off me, and our grip on the gun broke, but I didn’t win that break. I saw my girl standing next to me, a fucking shovel in her hands. She’d just decked him with a fucking shovel.
“Fuck, why are you still here?!” I barked at her in exasperation.
“I-I couldn’t leave you!” she said, her tearstained face looking down at me.
She was braver than I gave her credit for even if her body was shaking. I reached into my boot for my switch and ripped it through the rope connecting her hands and legs. That would give her more maneuverability at least. I tried to get her legs undone, too, but I felt a sting in my leg as a gunshot echoed around the hillside. I dropped my knife and gripped my leg, looking behind me. The Suns’ sergeant had fucking shot me.
I turned and looked at the trucks in front of us. A battle still waged on. I saw some of the Suns dead on the trucks and ground, but there were still a majority of them alive and firing. We were still on our own for now.
“Fuck! Rosalie, RUN!” I snapped at her.
She looked down at me and closed her eyes before turning and starting to run.
“Oh, no, you don’t, you fucking little slut!” Mack’s voice echoed around the area as he pulled himself to his feet andstarted after her. Even at his slower jog, he was going to catch her quickly.
I grabbed my knife and tried to pull myself to my feet when I felt a leg slam into my upper torso. I dropped and gasped for breath as the sergeant kicked me again in the stomach. He pointed his gun at me. I slashed up with my knife, and he leaned down and slammed my arm into the ground with his boot. I groaned as I dropped the knife a foot away.
