Page 52 of Missing Pieces
“Okay,” is all I say. I don’t even know what it means. I don’t know if I just agreed to stay or if I just agreed to give us a chance. But looking back into his eyes I can tell he understands. He brushes a loose strand of hair off my face. I lean over and give him a kiss, a kiss that says I am going to give us a chance.
He pulls me against his chest and holds me. I don’t know how long we lay like that. But it’s the most comforting thing I’ve felt in months. He leaves a trail of kisses in my hair and down my face. “I like this. Just right here. You and me.”
I look up at him and smile. Just as I am about to give him another kiss, Poe jumps on the bed and separates us. He attacks Easton with kisses and then snuggles between the two of us.
Easton gets up and I grab his hand and pull him back down to me.
He gives me a lingering kiss. “How about you come over tomorrow night and I’ll make you dinner?”
“That sounds good.”
“Okay. I’ll pick you up for work in the morning.”
He puts his boots on and I sigh as I watch him leave. This is not what I expected from this town.
