“Nerves I guess?” I ask, though I don’t know why I made it into a question.
Brooks wraps an arm around me. “Are you thinking about your mom?”
I look up at him. I truly love this man. He is always concerned about me, always looking out for me, always protecting me and in our short time together knows me better than anyway ever has. I smile as I answer, “I was thinking about coming here when I am older with my kids. I was wondering if they would enjoy it as much as I did when I was a kid.”
Brooks presses his lips to my forehead. “Blue, our kids will be front and center when they announce the winner of the pie contest every year. They will know their mom will always win.”
My heart swells and I have never felt so unbroken in my life. “Our kids?”
This time he presses his lips to mine, barely pulling back as he says, “Yeah, baby, our kids.”
I wrap my arms around his neck, half tempted to crawl onto his lap when Mac clears his throat.
“Okay so back to the whole not makin’ out in public thing,” he says.
My cheeks flush as I grab a beer from the table and drink half of it down.
Brooks laughs at me. “Well, hopefully your nerves will calm down a bit now.” He gestures to my beer.
Mac cuts in as he grabs one, “We were gonna give them all to you, but if I have to watch you two lovebirds all day, I am gonna need one. Or five.”
Brooks shakes his head at him. “Why don’t you call Laney?”
“Fuck man,” Mac answers as he rubs his face with his hands. “She is the last person I want to see right now.”
“I thought you were gonna break it off.” I say.
“It’s a lot harder than it sounds,” Mac answers before sipping his beer.
Brooks and I give each other a look before we both let it go and dive into the food on the table.
“I was looking into that lizard people thing again,” Mac says to Brooks.
I look between the two of them. Clearly lost. “What lizard people thing?”
Mac looks at me like I have two heads. “You have never heard of the lizard people?”Is he for real?
“Ugh, no.”
Brooks starts laughing as Mac dives into it. “Well, there is this secret society of people that might be half lizard. Some think they are part of the Illuminati, others think it’s an entirely different secret society of people that worship the devil.”
“No they don’t,” Brooks says. “More than likely they are all parts of different societies spreading knowledge and power.”
“Anyway,” Mac continues. “That whole theory that they might be living under Denver airport might be true, in a way. I think that they use it as a hub. Some travel through the underground tunnels while the members of other societies can easily travel to the airport and then—”
“Wait a minute,” I cut him off. “You really think there are lizard people. You guys are crazy. Not to mention the fact that they live underneath a major airport. Next thing you are gonna tell me is that Big Foot is real.”
“Big Foot isn’t real,” Brooks chimes in. “That is just a cover-up to hide what the government has going on in the mountains with weather balloons.”
“Oh my god, you guys are serious.” I knew Brooks was into the whole conspiracy theory thing, but this is crazy.
“Well as I was saying before Rae decided we are crazy, the members of the Freemasons and Illuminati and the like fly into the airport but never leave the airport. They go underground to the deeper levels and have their meetings there. Possible members have literally been spotted in the airport but never leave. I’ve read multiple reports.”
“The only thing that doesn’t work in your theory, Mac, is why in the hell they would all be meeting together. It doesn’t make sense. Unless they really are trying to do something with the new world order and recreate a new society.”
Mac nods his head. “I think you are on to something man. Look at this world, it’s falling to pieces, it’s fucked up. Mass genocide, deadly disease, whatever it may be will wipe out the population.”
“And what? They have some way to ensure that everyone in these societies survive?” I ask.
