“Are you okay, Luna?” he asked.

“I’m fine.” I plastered on a pleasant smile, remembering my place. “And please just call me Aspen.”

“Where is she now?” I tightened my hands into fists, resting them on the desk on either side of my laptop, and breathed slowly through my nose.

“Beau is downstairs keeping an eye out while they film the interviews,” Ivan said. He was still speaking softly, keeping his tone in check, so as not to rile my beast further.

I was supposed to be heading to the interviews too where I’d planned to intercept Aspen and ask her on our date tonight. But I was glad Ivan caught me in my room. There’s no telling what I would have done to that little bitch wolf Trenton or the producers on this show or anyone else who got in my way if I’d learned about this downstairs.

Even now, darkness edged at my vision while my wolf paced silent and deadly in my mind.

The things we planned to do.

It all made sense now.

I’d wondered since I’d met her what intentions she had for being on this show. My sweet girl who couldn’t flirt to save her life and barely spoke to any of the males. She was in bed by nine o’clock every night, not bothering to prowl the dating scenes in the resort. She wasn’t looking for a mate.

It was pure luck I found her at all.

Blackmail.

That was the reason she was on this show. And from her own Alpha nonetheless.

My beast started growling.

I was going to break Trenton’s neck with my own hands. Send his head back to his father in a cake box. Erase his entire bloodline from the face of the earth.

“Hey, boss. I know that look.” Ivan rubbed the top of his bald head. “While I agree with you that he needs to pay, we shouldn’t go in all claws and teeth until we at least speak with our Luna first.”

“What makes you think I’ll react rashly?” My voice was icy calm as I looked him directly in the eye.

“Only the obvious.” Ivan whined softly as his wolf reacted to the power I was pushing out with every ragged exhale.

“No. A quick death will be too easy. Too painless.” I clicked off the screensaver on my laptop. “I am going to destroy Nuva Pack piece by piece.”

“What about her grandfather?” Ivan asked. “If what I heard over the phone was right, he’s the bargaining chip. Aspen will never forgive us if something happens to him.”

My jaw clenched and I forced my beast down as he started snarling at Ivan’s overly familiar use of my mate’s name.

We trust him.

I trust no one.

“Alpha?” Ivan whined again as he tilted his head to the side, baring his neck.

“It’s like you don’t even know me.” I tried to put humor into my tone and failed. Sighing, I turned the laptop around so he could see Aspen’s call records.

I pulled out my phone. It wasn’t hard to pinpoint her papa’s number. He was the only one she called. I typed in the numbers, pausing before hitting the button for the call to go out.

A moment of unease washed over me.

What if he doesn’t approve of our match?

She’d said during the interviews this was important to her and I recalled the way she’d spoken of him during the speed dating event.
