He’ll love us.
You don’t know that.
I know I love her.
“Alpha, is something wrong?” Ivan asked again. Worry pulsed from him in waves.
I took a deep breath and hit call. The phone rang a few times and went straight to an automated voicemail. I ended it before the tone beeped.
“I need you to hack into Alpha Derek’s personal and business systems.” I set my phone on the desk. “Put monitors on his bank accounts, the prison software, and any shipments coming in or out of the territory. I don’t want him to so much as breathe without us knowing about it.”
“On it.” Ivan’s relief was palpable at being given a job to do and I knew he’d be able to handle this quickly.
“Get eyes on Trenton too,” I called after him.
“Yes, Alpha.” Ivan nodded and let the door close behind him.
I leaned back in my chair, debating on heading straight downstairs.
The show wanted drama.
I could give them a bloodbath. I’d slaughter that kid where he stood and string him by his entrails on the deer antler chandelier over the lobby.
“This is crazy.” Fallon poked her head out of her bedroom. “Tell me things are changing and we’ll be leaving sooner now.”
I swung the chair around so I was facing her. I’d assumed she was napping, but knowing my sister, she’d heard everything so I didn’t bother asking what she knew. “What’s going on with you?”
“Nothing,” she bit out, angry that I’d put her in the spotlight.
“Don’t lie to me, Fallon.”
“Fine.” She blew out an exaggerated breath, lifting the hairs around her face. “My wolf is going nuts. I want her out of here by mating season.”
“Your wolf?” I started, connecting the dots. “Which male is it?”
My phone rang.
“None of your business.” Fallon let out a sigh of relief. “You better answer that.” She slammed the door shut as I looked at my phone screen.
I coughed to clear the anger from my voice before I answered. “Hello?”
“Hello,” the gruff old man said. “Who the hell is this?”

I stared up at the antler chandelier in the lobby, wondering who got stuck with the job of dusting it, as I made my way over to the line near the fireplace. There was a mimosa bar set up out back where half the interviews were being held poolside, but I’d stayed inside instead. It was easier to see the elevators from here and I was keeping my eye out for Ranger.
Though I wasn’t sure what I was going to say if I saw him.“Thanks for letting me ride your hand,”seemed a little forward.
You can tell him we’ll return the favor.
My wolf settled down with a dramatic sigh, keeping her eyes also on the elevators. Since Alpha Derek’s little phone call a few hours ago, she’d basically given up on the human race and all her fixation was on Ranger now.
I didn’t have the heart to tell her that things probably weren’t going to work out like she thought. This wasn’t your typical mating season match. Ranger was an insanely powerful Alpha who had a huge pack to take care of. I was a nobody wolf coming to the table with no money and a load of baggage.
Not that my papa was a burden or anything, but my top priority was to get him out of Nuva Pack. Then there was always the threat of Alpha Dereklooming. If he’d already changed the terms of our agreement on me like this, there was no telling what he’d do next. It would be so embarrassing if he decided he wanted some favors out of Ranger. How would I explain I was nothing like my pack if I had to continue to do Derek’s dirty work?
