What’s wrong with their wolves?

You’re one to talk,I teased. You barely came out on our first few heats.

I came out when I needed to,she huffed.Besides, you could handle those weak mutts.

I’m assuming I’ll need your help with Ranger.I was only half joking.

More than likely. She gave a wolfish grin. I’d never known my beast to be this horny, but there’d never been someone she was interested in.

“So, I have to ask,” Ismelda said, twisting her hands as she glanced at me. Amber stepped into the interview booth after her sister’s turn, but I could seethe wistful pout on her face. She didn’t want to miss my answer to whatever this was.

“Go ahead,” I told Ismelda.

She shared a look with Kimberly. “Why didn’t your wolf claim Trenton? Is there something wrong with him?”

I thought about lying even if they could smell it, but despite what Alpha Derek threatened, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I didn’t at least try to help someone else with their happily ever after.

Who knew? Maybe Trenton would find the girl to complete him someday. But I wasn’t going to brag about what he didn’t have.

“It wasn’t the right fit,” I told them. “Trenton was never strong enough for my wolf to take him seriously.”

Ismelda rolled her eyes as the production assistant hooked her up with a microphone. “Obviously.”

It was not the reaction I was expecting. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“She doesn’t mean anything by it,” Kimberly said after Ismelda stepped into the booth. “It’s just not every day you see a low-ranking she-wolf take on an Alpha of Ranger’s size. Your wolf must like them big, big.”

I sure do.

I blinked, not believing she just said that out loud.

Kimberly shrugged and gave a sheepish smile. “No offense.”

“Aspen, darling, it’s been a while since we’ve gotten to speak with you. You’re a hard woman to find.” Jay Renfro sat across from me in the booth beside an interview attendant, sipping a glass of what smelled like lemonade.

“It has been a while,” I agreed. Almost three weeks in this place felt like a lifetime. “With forty contestants to interview, I’m surprised you had the time to fit me in.”

“We’ll cut that,” someone mumbled on the dark side of the curtain.

I guessed it was the wrong thing to say.

“The viewers have been dying for more details on you and Ranger,” Jay continued. “You have to tell us what’s going on with you two.”

I also had questions.

My smile grew bigger as I folded my hands in my lap. “They know about as much as I do.”

“Come on. You have to give us more than that.” Jay pouted. I wondered if Molly was outside doing interviews at the mimosa bar and how I’d gotten so lucky by avoiding her. Jay wasn’t nearly as terrifying as the human woman who ran everything behind the scenes.

I tried to think of something interesting to give him. “My wolf is… smitten.”

Smitten? Who says that?

Would you rather I said “obsessed?”

“We can see that.” Jay laughed. “And Mr. McCaw must feel the same since he can’t seem to stay away.”
