“And, what I am?”
“If you’re anything at all. You could just be a human with a spell cast on you.”
“A human with a spell cast on me? I feel like I’ve stepped into crazy town.”
“You’re handling it well,” Nero said with a chuckle. “I’m not sure I would if I were in your shoes.”
“I’m glad that’s how it looks,” I said with a laugh. “So, you grew up always knowing you’re a wolf shifter? And you and Cage’s parents are wolf shifters?”
“Our mother is. I don’t know about our father. Neither of us have ever met him.”
“Is that a normal thing with shifters?”
“I guess about as normal as in the human world.”
I laughed. “In the human world? I don’t think I’ll ever get used to hearing that.”
“There’s a difference.”
“I bet. Your childhood must have been… unique.”
“It was but for another reason. I’m my own special form of screwed up.”
“How so?”
“I didn’t meet Cage until about a year ago. Up until then, I had to do a lot of things to survive.”
“Like what?”
“I used to host fight clubs for people like me.”
“Oh.”
“It wasn’t by choice. I mean, I chose to do it, but I also had a shitty busboy job.”
“You were trying to find a way out?”
“Yeah,” he said, his brow furrowing with pain.
“Thank you for what you did last night,” I told him hoping to make him feel better. “I can’t tell you how good it made me feel.”
Nero smiled.
“Me going down on you was that good, huh?” He said looking proud of himself.
I didn’t want to burst his bubble.
“You’re a miracle worker.”
“Then maybe we should do that again.”
“Maybe we should,” I said thinking it wasn’t a half-bad idea.
“Want to get out of here?”
“I didn’t mean now,” I said placing my hand on his arm.
I liked touching him. Doing it filled me with a warmth that told me that everything was going to be alright.
