“Run!” Nero yelled pushing open his door.

Following him, I ripped off my shirt. Lunging forward I felt my bones break and reset. My wolf was free. The world looked different. Finding my pack mate and falling in his wake, the two of us sprinted through the trees fleeing for our lives.

Taking a moment to look back, I saw it. I had heard Cage talk about them, but I barely believed him. It was a dragon. A scaly, long-necked beast with fiery eyes. It cover the distance like a jet and dive bombing us, it grabbed Nero’s wolf in its claws and tossed him forward.

Nero hit the ground with a crash. As I ran toward him, Nero didn’t get up. He wasn’t dead, but he was lying there dazed. I had to protect him. I had to do what I could to keep him safe.

Rushing to him, I turned around putting me between Nero and the monster. Perched mid-air 30 feet in front of me, I fought against the pressure from each of its flaps. It had me. It had the both of us. And when it roared spewing fire into the air, I saw how I would die.

Shifting back into a human I pleaded with it.

“Stop! I beg you. Don’t hurt us.”

Hearing it, the beast looked at me. He understood. Lowering itself onto the ground, it gave me as smug of a look that its scaly chin could muster. Folding its wings onto itself, it shifted. I recognized the person it became.

“You!” I said staring at a naked Big Mac.

“What the fuck, man?” I said as he approached me grinning.

“Your friends not so cocky now, is he?” Mac said offering me his hand to help me up.

“I think you hurt him,” I told him as we both looked down at Nero’s wolf.

“Nah. I know your type. The only thing that’s hurt is his pride. Shake it off, Rook,” Mac demanded.

To my surprise, Nero responded. Shifting back into a human, he laid there for only a second before sitting up.

“See. Now, mouth off to me again and I’ll tear you boney ass to shreds. Both of you,” he threatened before spreading his humongous wings, shifting, and disappearing into the night.

I watched him go. I was still shocked. Nothing I had ever heard did justice to what I had just seen. It was terrifying yet awe inspiring.

“Nero, are you alright?” I asked the shaken man on the ground in front of me.

“You mean other than getting my ass kicked?”

I chuckled. “Yeah. I mean other than that.”

Nero huffed a laugh and looked away. I sat next to him.

“I thought I was gonna die,” I admitted. “We almost did.”

Nero didn’t reply.

“I can’t believe all of the things I haven’t done. I would have died without telling Lou how I feel.”

Nero snapped toward me.

“Fine, I admit it. I have feelings for Lou. You happy?”

“Not if you don’t do anything about it.”

“I have to go home,” I told him realizing it. “I have to see Lou.”

Chapter 1

Lou

What type of idiot invites a guy to meet their parents for their third date? It’s like when someone hops the fence around the gorilla cage at the zoo… and then takes the gorilla to meet their parents for their third date. It’s crazy talk that only a psycho would do.
