“That’s what I thought,” he said after the silence drew out.
He didn’t say it in an angry way, though. It wasn’t even sadness. It was more resignation and acceptance. I didn’t want Lou to think those things about the way I felt about him.
“You know I’m gonna be the best fake fiancé you’ll ever have, right? I’m gonna ruin you for all your future fake fiancés.”
Lou laughed, so at least there was that. But as I thought further, something came to mind.
“If your parents have already met Seymour, how are you gonna pass me off as your fiancé? He and I look nothing alike.”
“First of all, you do. That was one of the first things I noticed about him.”
“That he looked like me?”
Lou tightened his lips innocently as he looked up into my eyes.
“Wow!” I said never expecting Lou to admit to such a thing. Because, yeah, to be honest, it was hard to miss the resemblance between the two of us.
“But secondly, and more importantly, my parents never looked at him. They looked down the entire time like they were embarrassed to be a part of it. I could bring home Quin and they wouldn’t know the difference.”
“So, I take it that Quin is busy this weekend?”
“Well, I’m asking you. So, obviously.”
I laughed. I didn’t know whether he was joking. I never knew if he was joking when he talked about crushing on Quin. But it wasn’t like he was a threat.
“Obviously,” I agreed. “I would expect nothing less.”
“Nothing less,” Lou echoed before we both cracked up.
“So you think passing me off as your fiancé will work, huh?”
“After tonight, there’s clearly no one who knows me better.”
“That is true. So, does that mean we’ll be sharing a bed?”
“Don’t you get any ideas, mister,” he teased. “I’m a good boy,” he said pulling his body close to mine.
“I wouldn’t dream of it,” I told him imagining stripping him naked and pressing his thighs against his chest.
“Oh!” Lou said suddenly pulling away.
“I’m sorry. I don’t know why that happened.”
Lou stared at me not saying a word. Why wasn’t he saying anything? Yeah, I had gotten hard thinking about us sharing a bed, but it wasn’t a big deal, right?
“Lou, please don’t make this a big deal,” I told him hoping I hadn’t ruined everything.
I don’t know why, but Lou just kept staring at me. When he finally spoke, it felt like an eternity had passed.
“Titus, can you walk me home?”
“Of course.”
He then took my hand and said, “Fiancé practice.”
I smiled. “Good idea.”
Holding hands under the moonlight, I walked him home in silence.
