Page 452 of His Hungry Wolf
The longer I was out of bed, the more life returned to me. What had I been thinking over the past few weeks? Yeah, Lou refused to talk to me and it hurt. It hurt a lot. But wasn’t there more going on than how it made me feel?
Lou had also moved out of the place he had lived for two and a half years. He had been living with one of his best friends. Why would someone do that? And where did he go? Did he move in with Sey? That wouldn’t make sense. Why would he do that?
That was it. Instead of wallowing in self-pity, I needed to ask myself why he would do that.
I thought about it as I shoveled a fork-full of pancakes into my mouth.
“Whywouldhe do that?” I said aloud.
He and I had had sex. It was his first time and not from a lack of opportunities. He had chosen to share that moment with me. We had talked about starting our life together. He had texted me at the restaurant saying that Sey had arrived and then had ghosted me. What happened between him and Sey that had changed everything?
“Lou’s in trouble!” I said as it hit me like a lightning bolt. “Lou’s in trouble,” I repeated as it slowly set in.
Flinging my chair aside, I shot up and ran like my life depended on it. It did, didn’t it? Lou was my life and he needed me. I know he did. I had lost myself in my own bullshit, but I saw it now. How had I not seen it before?
Sprinting across campus, I went to the last place I knew he was. Buzzing the intercom to be let into the dorm, I couldn’t be sure Quin was home. Cage always used a code to tell Quin it was him at the door. I pressed the button in the same way.
“Hello?” Quin asked confused.
“Quin, it’s Titus. I need to talk to you.”
“Titus? I ahh…”
“Quin, Lou needs our help. You need to let me in.”
There was a pause, but eventually, the door buzzed open. Bounding the stairs two at a time, I exited the stairwell on the second floor and ran to Quin’s door.
“Titus?” he said again when he looked me in the eyes.
It was almost like he wasn’t going to let me in, but I pushed past him and entered. Pacing the living room, I took a second and looked up. Quin was standing in front of me in a pair of boxers.
“You coming back to bed?” Cage asked exiting Quin’s bedroom in a towel. He must not have heard me because the bulge stretching across the front of it told me I had caught them in the middle of something.
“Titus?” he said spotting me. “What are you…?”
“I’m sorry. I can see I’m interrupting something, but this is important. Lou needs our help.”
Cage and Quin gave each other a knowing look.
“What?” I asked feeling the tension.
“You should tell him,” Cage said to Quin. “I’ll get dressed.”
“Tell me what?” I said with my wolf’s claws tearing at me fighting to get out.
“We, um, got this in the mail yesterday,” Quin said retrieving an envelope from the dining table.
He handed it to me. It was square-shaped. With the flap already open, I reached in and pulled out a card.
“Seymour Charleston and Louis Armoury cordially invite you to share the special day of their wedding…”
I stopped reading aloud when I realized what it was. I looked at the date.
“It’s in less than two weeks,” I said shocked.
“I’m so sorry,” Quin said.
“No. No, this isn’t right. Something’s wrong.”
