“Don’t get any ideas, little witch.”

A gasp left my lips as I snapped my attention back to Aidoneus, finding his cerulean blue eyes trained on me. Whatever magic had been present moments ago was gone now, and he looked all the stronger for it. His hooded gaze stared down at me through dark curls that had fallen over his face. His pupils dilated as he inhaled deeply, drinking in my fear and panic as if it were his favorite wine.

“It is taking all my will to keep my power in check,” he said as unabashed desire burned in his gaze. I felt like I was a doe being sized up by a ravenous wolf, and for some gods forsaken reason, Ilikedit. “A demon like me enjoys the chase. And you’re not ready for what happens when I catch you.”

“I can handle more than you realize,” I said, lifting my chin. I knew I should have kept my mouth shut, but despite realizing who he was and all the horrible shit he’d done, the fluttering in my chest and the spooling of heat low in my belly didn’t slow.

Aidoneus’s lips twisted into a wicked smirk causing my breathing to hitch. The fires blazing beneath us cast shadows across the hard planes of his chest, highlighting every dip of his muscles. His pants hung low on his hips, the tattoos across his chest dipping below his waistband. Savoring what he did to me, he took a step forward.

“There’s nowhere in this world or any other you can go that I won’t follow.”

Blood rushed to my cheeks at the vehemence dripping from every word. Mirroring him, I took a step back, ash making the stone bridge slick.

“Stop looking at me like that,” I snapped, hating myself fornothating him. Despite knowing he was a monster, the villain of my nightmares, a murderer of innocents, my traitorous body wanted him. Even worse, Aidoneus could tell.

“Like what?” His teasing gaze dipped to where my thighs clench, his nostrils flaring as slickness built.

“Like I’m your next meal.” I was proud of the bite to my words, but it couldn’t conceal the way my breasts heaved as he prowled forward.

“I have no doubt you’ll thoroughly enjoy being my next meal, little witch. You’re probably imagining it right now.”

I shook my head, not trusting myself to speak. He grinned.

“Can you imagine it? What it would feel like to have my tongue buried deep in your sweet pussy? I wonder what sounds you’ll make as I feast on you, tasting and licking until you’re writhing against my face as I fucked you with my tongue.”

A whimper escaped me as my breath quickened, every nerve in my body tingling with the need to let him take me.

“You’ll be begging me for more, Persephone,” he promised. “And I’ll give it to you, until there’s no doubt that you’re mine.”

My eyes dipped to his wicked mouth, imagining all the ways he could make good on his threat.

“You mean Hades’s,” I breathed.

Aidoneus froze, all the emotions flashing across his face moments ago vanishing.

“You’re bringing me to Hades. I thought you were making it up, but you really are delivering me to The God of The Underworld, aren’t you?” I swallowed as his lips pressed thin, not bothering to deny it. “I’ll be his. Not yours.”

Kampe screeched again, causing me to jump and break eye contact with Aidoneus. I looked up, finding her great, scaled body arching high overhead, before cresting into a sharp dive.

Damn it.

Aidoneus may be the left hand of Hades, but I needed him if I were to have any chance of surviving Cocytus and escaping The Underworld.

Against my better judgment, I dashed toward him, closing the space between us in a matter of moments. Aidoneus was ready, catching me in his arms as my fingers splayed across his chest.

A gasp tore from my lips as our bodies connected, the sound echoed by Aidoneus as heat flared beneath my fingertips. Electricity pricked as power surged between us, linking our souls together.

I could feel everything.

All of him.

Like the sparks of our individual flames had joined, transforming into a raging bonfire. But where my body felt hot, his was cool, the two opposing sensations clashing with one another.

Magic streamed from my fingertips, forcing some of the frozen pieces of his being to thaw. It felt like shards of crystals were in his veins, slicing and sluggish as his frozen heart contracted.

Firm hands grabbed my shoulders, pressing me back just enough for my hands to leave his chest. His full lips were parted, eyes searching my own for the answers to a riddle neither of us knew.

Before either of us could speak, he spun me behind him. Black-tipped talons slashed the spot I was moments ago, tearing out chunks of the bridge. Kampe rose, circling once more as she prepared for her next strike.
