“Stoplying!” she screamed, her voice breaking on the last word. She turned to run, but I was there before she could, backing her up until the stairs were at her back.
“I’m not lying, Persephone.” My heart raced, my body humming with the unfamiliar state of being vulnerable—of feeling anything at all—but it was nothing compared to what my little witch was going through. Her cheeks were damp, eyes ringed in pink, and that beautiful bottom lip of hers trembled as she fought for control. I wasn’t going to let her catch it.
“I haven’t felt anything in so long.”
Persephone shook her head as her gaze dropped from mine, but I eased her chin back up.
“Not until you. At first, I thought this was a product of your magic, of your power resurrecting my withering body, but then I saw death magic surround you in Elysium. I had towatchas the shadows consumed your life force while I was helpless to reach you. And then the darkness cleared. The forest and fields were alive once more… but you fell.”
Her breathing hitched, sobs shaking through her body, as I stepped closer. She lifted a hand to my chest, keeping me at a distance, but she didn’t stop my hand wrapping around her waist, tugging her closer.
“You saved Elysium. The world was thriving, and my people were safe, but you… You were so still. At that moment, I didn’t think about the balance, or the repercussions. I couldn’t see past the way your eyes had closed. Couldn’t fathom an existence where I might never see the exact shade of green in your eyes again.”
Tears fell as the pad of my thumb traced the curve of her cheek.
“Give me your anger, little witch. Glare at me with hatred and fury, with infinite loathing. I’ll take it all, every scowl. Every curse. So long as youlive.”

PERSEPHONE
How did he do that? One minute, I was content in my anger. Justified even. And then the next…
Against my better judgment, I leaned into his touch, still not daring to open my eyes, but his palm was warm on my cheek, wiping away the last of my tears.
“I don’t regret lying to you, little witch. I can’t, not when it brought us here.”
My fingers curled into his tunic, the effort I’d been putting into keeping him at a distance dissipating as my eyelids fluttered open. The blacks of his eyes had expanded, hinting at the dark god within, but where I’d once seen only cool detachment, there was now burning desire.
Desire for me. Not for the earth witch to restore balance, or the future queen of The Underworld, butme.
My gaze dropped to his lips as my tongue darted out to wet my own. Hating him was easier than trusting this—whateverthiswas—between us. I should focus on all the reasons I had to keep my distance, but then he bent. His lips brushed the edge of my cheek, trailing kisses down my neck. His tongue teased the sensitive spot along my collarbone, and I felt the last of my resolve crumble.
“Say you’ll be mine,” Hades whispered.
His teeth scraped over the top of my breast, and I arched into him. My life magic flared as he followed the sharp neckline of my gown, tasting between my breasts. His lips dipped lower with each frantic beat of my heart, before he dropped to his knees before me.
“Let me worship you forever.”
Dark eyes blazed up at me, the shadow of monstrous wings stretching out behind him. My hands dropped to his shoulders as he worked under my dress, his fingers teasing up the back of my calves. The sight of him—the God of The Underworld, power incarnate—staring up at me with desperate longing, with insatiable hunger, had my thighs trembling. And when his fingers continued their exploration up beneath the gold silk, brushing against my bare pussy, I didn’t stop them.
Hades groaned as he felt the slickness between my thighs, my own whimpers joining him as he pressed two fingers in. He pumped once, twice, before withdrawing, the evidence of my arousal clear as he held his finger before my lips.
“Open your mouth,” Hades rumbled. “Taste what your god does to you.”
Heat flared in my cheeks, warmth pooling lower, as I parted my lips and sucked, tasting myself on his fingers.
“Such a good girl,” he praised. “Lie back, little witch. It’s time I had a taste.”
Not trusting my legs to hold me up much longer anyway, I sank onto the steps, watching as Hades’s ram horns shimmered into being.
“What about the party?” I breathed, my pulse racing as he pressed the golden silk up, until the smooth material pooled across my waist.
“Let them wait.”
Hades parted my thighs, exposing all of me to his hooded gaze. My chest heaved as I watched him lick his lips, his eyes eclipsed in black, before he buried himself between my legs. His tongue licked up my center, languid and savoring each stroke, letting me know he enjoyed this just as much as I did.
I propped myself up on my elbows, watching him work my body tighter. The coil of pleasure built as his tongue flicked and swirled over my clit, the scrape of his teeth adding to the mix of sensations. Moans fell from my lips, my head dropping back as I wrapped one of my hands around his horns, holding him where I needed him most.
