Well, fuck. That seems like a respectful compromise.

“Actually, the upgrade helped us out, Miss Hayes. We have a basketball team staying and we were short a few of the standard rooms. So, it’s like you’re doing the resort a favor.” The woman behind the desk smiles and shrugs her shoulders.

“What am I going to do with you?” I ask, my hands on my hips.

“Well, I hope you’ll enjoy yourself in our big ass room.” He leans in, pressing a kiss to the place where my cheek and ear meet, and whispers, “I can also think of some other things you could do with me.”

My cheeks are all the way red right now. I can feel the warmth spread down my body.

We open the doorto our room and see our luggage, and a welcome basket from

Eliza and Mitch, waiting for us. Sunlight pours in from a wall of windows, which lead out to a private balcony. I’m only a few steps in and realize this is much more than a single room.

“This is like an apartment,” I say, walking into the living area and falling into a massive chair, which feels like a gentle hug.

“We love an upgrade!” Zack calls from the kitchen. “How about some champagne?”

“Do you even need to ask?” I answer, and it’s punctuated with the pop of the champagne cork.

I meet Zack in the kitchen, admiring how all the appliances are brand new, stainless steel, and the cabinets are open and modern. He hands me a flute and gestures to the balcony. He slides the door, which just looks like a massive window, and steps outside.

I take a moment and close my eyes, feeling the wind whip through my curls, probably making them wild and unmanageable. It smells like sea water and something sweet, like a blooming flower. Waves crash and it’s one of my favorite sounds in the whole world.

After taking in the moment, I open my eyes and gasp. “Is that a hot tub?”

“You know it is,” he says while stepping next to me.

He offers his glass up, like he’s going to give a toast.

“Cheers, baby. I can’t wait for the next few days with you.” Zack smirks at me.

I take a sip of the champagne, which tastes like it was made for a balcony in Mexico. “This balcony feels like its own little world. I can barely tell anyone else is here, like it doesn’t even feel part of the resort.”

“Believe me, I haveplansfor this balcony. You’ll see.”

His words rake down my body, giving me goosebumps and quickening my pulse. Zack presses his mouth to mine, and we share a champagne flavored kiss. He pulls away quicker than I'd hoped.

“What’s on our itinerary for today?” he asks, looking out toward the ocean.

I walk back to the welcome basket, which includes a full schedule of the wedding festivities. I scan for what’s on the list for today.

“Looks like a welcome dinner and cocktails tonight, 7 PM.”

Zack looks at me, rubbing his hands together. “You know what that means? We have time to go to the beach. I’m going to show you how to throw a football.”

“Bring it on, Andersen.”

Chapter 37

Zack

“Quit looking at melike that,” I scold. Emilie is wearing a red dress, with a red lip because she’s trying to give me a heart attack. Or get me to sayfuck itto the welcome dinner and take her back to our room the way I’ve been dying to. We’re walking to the event, not even inside, and I’m already contemplating how to make a quick exit.

“Like what?” she asks, innocently sarcastic.

I lean and whisper into her curls, “Like you want me to devour you.”

She stops, turns me to face her, and puts a single hand on her chest before she murmurs, “Maybe I do?” Her eyes are like daggers, and her mouth is just as sharp.
