“Of course, why wouldn’t he?”

I stepped away from him. I couldn’t voice my concerns about my sister to the Beast. Nor the niggling feeling circling my body that a dark cloud of doom was heading my way, and she was the cause. As he said, I didn’t trust him yet. Why would I? I scarcely knew him apart from the amazing orgasms he gave me. No wonder he thought it was about sex.

“Dress in those. You need to look the part even if you won’t act it.”

“Ouch.” He placed his hands over his heart. “I’m demon royalty, little queen. I know how to act.”

“Very well. Then act your heart out today for your sake, if not for mine.”

He scoffed. “Everything I do will be for my mate. Remember that.”

I brushed my hair over my shoulders. “I should have requested Raelin braid my hair before you scared her off.”

“Sit.” He nodded at the bed. “I’ll braid your hair for you.”

“You?”

“Yes, me.”

“But you don’t have long hair.”

“My little sister does. Ma… she… it doesn’t matter, but she wasn’t there to raise my little sister, so my brother and I did.”

I cupped the side of his face. “A demon with a heart.”

He dragged my other hand to his chest. “A heart that beats for you now.”

“The Beast can be sweet. Who would have guessed?”

He chuckled. “You keep that knowledge to yourself, all right?”

I grinned. “Of course. Me taking you as my mate would lose its significance if others realized.”

“So size does matter?”

I laughed.

He smirked.

“I’d say you’ve been around as long as me to appreciate it does.”

“True, little queen, and I’m certain in my size.”

“I bet you are.” I winked and strode to the bed.

Perching on the side, I sat with my back to him. His fingers brushed through my tresses, sweeping the strands across my back and making my skin pebble in goose bumps. His warm breath gusted over the top of my head as his fingers sectioned my hair and braided them around my crown and down my back. He twirled the length around my head and tucked the end into place.

“There. A braid fit for a queen.” He kissed the back of my shoulder.

I rose from the bed and walked to the mirror. The braid he’d woven around my head was intricate and attractive.

“Thank you.” I touched the braid.

“You’re welcome.” He collected me into his arms. “But it comes down the second I can have my demon way with you again.”

“Deal.”
