The Autumn Court
Thea sagged in myarms as I carried her into the bedchambers. I snagged the throw rug, tossed it on the floor in front of the fireplace, and lit the fire with a flash of my power. The timber sparked to life as I settled her on my chest before the warm flames. Having every inch of her pressed against my body settled every speck of rage inside me. Is this why Rage Demons searched for their fated mates? For this quiet we never experienced.
There was no chance I’d destroy a realm with my rage with Thea in my arms.
I let out a contented breath.
Thea raised her head and peered at me.
“Yes?” I cocked an eyebrow.
“Who are you?”
“I told you, Beast.”
She rolled her eyes. “I can’t call you Beast forever.”
“Why not?”
“You’ll be a king soon.”
“King Beast.”
She giggled. The best sound in all the realms.
I stroked a hand down her back. “You’re much more agreeable after an orgasm.”
She stopped giggling to give me her best death stare.
“You don’t scare me.” I brushed my knuckles over her cheek. “My fierce little siren queen.”
“Don’t you forget it.” She fought a grin.
“Not a chance. I’ve waited a long time for you.”
“Everyone and their fated mates.” She sighed. “What’s it like?”
“Having a fated mate?” I cupped the back of her head and brought her lips to mine. “Or knowing you have a fated mate?”
“Both, I guess.”
“Sensing you have a fated mate is pure torture. It’s like you understand the other half of your soul is out there in the realms somewhere waiting for you to find.” I kneaded the muscles in her neck. “Having a fated mate is like at long last being whole. Connected.”
“I always wondered if that was the case. My mother and father were so happy together as mates. You could see their connection in every move they made. It was like strings connected them.”
I sat up, bringing her with me, and leaned against the chair. She snuggled into me.
“Why don’t sirens take mates?”
“After our siren secrets now?”
“No, I want to learn more about you. My mate.”
“Oh,” she whispered.
